Answer:
Dutch would probably be easier for you because you can recognize a lot of words and know how to pronounce them. But keep in mind that some words they use in Dutch are also used in Afrikaans but have a totally different meaning. If it's easy for you to learn another language you can probably learn Dutch very fast, because you know a lot of words already and know how to pronounce them. Some words are almost similar, like Afrikaans = Lekker slaap, Dutch = Slaap lekker. Afrikaans = Nie, Dutch = nee But in Afrikaans you are using the word nie twice in a sentence, In Dutch you are using the word nee only once. Afrikaans = Baie dankie Dutch = Dank u wel or Dank je wel But some words have a different meaning in Dutch. Like the word 'Douche' its a normal word in Dutch in Afrikaans it's Stort. (you know what douche means in Afrikaans) A very normal word for cat in Dutch is poes, You can't say that in Afrikaans people would look very strange if you were calling your poes on the street. I once told my driver that Het is erg aardig van jou = it was very kind of him, I used the Dutch word aardig (kind) and he was very upset. I had no idea why, until I found out that the Dutch word 'Aardig' (kind) had a diffrent meaning in Afrikaans. So from that point on I talked English with him if I wanted to explain something. On the internet you can find some excamples how to pronounce Dutch, I searched ' Nederlands les op you tube" and found some examples like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ChofQnY3PE&feature=related But you can probably find more examples.

Obviously Dutch is the most easiest for you. Whenever we here Bishop Tutu speaking on the Dutch Television news, we can with a little difficulty quite understand him without subtitles. So I guess it won't be too difficult to understand Dutch. Tip: try to read some Dutch sites, and see if you can understand what it says. You probably won't be able to understand everything fully, but you might grasp the meaning of thetext.

Afrikaans is like Dutch from 300 years ago ( according to my Dutch Language teacher ) , and Dutch is something like some " Low German " or Plat-Deutsch , as spoken in the northwest of Germany . But quite different to the Hoch-Deutsch which is modern standard German . So Dutch is your best bet . But your accent will always mark you .
Dutch. Afrikaans is pretty much a fork of Dutch as it was spoken 200 years ago. Start watching some youtube clips. Get a book, see if there's any dutch in your area willing to do a bit of tutoring.
