Where to go in Cyprus?

• Hi, im planning on going to Cyprus, can somebody tell me where to go? Mainly east coast or west coast? Where are most of the clubs and beaches located? When is the best time to go there? Is early august ok? How do i get around the island? How far is athens from cyprus? Where are the ruins located? Is cyprus expensive? Any tips for a first timer?

  OK I'm English and retired in Ayia Napa so a few notes from personal experience. In august Cyprus is VERY hot, like over 100F or 42C so if that's to hot for you think about coming in late September when it's a bit cooler, everything will still be open. Bring your own high factor sun screen. Most of what is available on the sea front if fake and useless. If clubs and beaches are your scene then head for either Ayia Napa or Protoras (East coast). Further up market and geared for a slightly older market is the Paphos area (West coast). Ruins are everywhere, if you want to see them I suggest that on arrival you visit the Cyprus Tourist Office Booth in the Baggage reclaim area at the airport, There at both airports, loads of information, all for free and you can do it while waiting for your baggage. Car hire is cheap by UK standards, You can get a small car, Honda jazz for as little as €80 per week if you look around. You can use your UK license and we drive on the left. Flight time Athens to Larnaca is 1 hour max even less to Paphos, you will barely have time to consume a coffee. Only drawback is that Cyprus has joined both the EC and the Euro € so it's not the cheap area it was when I moved here. Come and have fun and join me in the sun, you will never regret it. Ian M
