Where to go in cyprus?

Cyprus: Where is best to go?

  • Planning a holiday to Cyprus where we want to do a bit of everything - plenty of sun, sea and sand but also a bit of walking, seeing some of the nature etc, soaking up a bit of culture and vineyard-ary and good eating and plenty of drinking. I think the best way is to hire a scooter or something of the like so we can get about under our own steam. Would you agree?? Next which region is actually best to base ourselves in?? I am thinking Pafos or Lemosas. Any suggestions?? Anything you particularly enjoyed or recommend in Cyprus?? Anything to avoid or dire warnings to share?!

You definitely do not want to be based in Limassol. Base yourself in Paphos where you will find all the culture and nature that you want. You would also be quite close to the Akamas Peninsula where if you are lucky you may see the turtles! Akamas in any case is a wonderful area for walking and exploring. The Baths of Aphrodite will offer you crystal clear water to swim in and the food in this particular area is to die for, especially if you like fish! Paphos itself is steeped in history from the Tombs of the Kings, to the ancient castle and the fabulous theatre. Great bars and cafes overlooking the harbour and do not miss going to the Ktima district, which is old Paphos. Hire a car instead of a scooter and go up into the mountains where you will find the best walk of all, Caledonia Falls. At the end of this wild three mile walk there is a spectacular water fall.

Depends on what you're looking for - we honeymooned in Limassol and it was lovely - not too chavvy. I would definitely suggest taking a trip up to the Turkish occupied area in the North - soo beautiful!

For all the things you are looking for, then I would suggest you go for Paphos. There are plenty of good beaches, and a good selection of shops, bars and restaurants. then of course, you have the old fort in the harbour, The Huse Of dionyses, where there is a great selection of mosaics to view, and just a short drive away; The Tombs Of The Kings. Then, taking a drive out of Paphos,, heading towars Lemesos ( Limassol), you wildd find the Amphitheatre at Kourion, and just nearby, Kolossi Castle.....which also is surrounded by vineyards!! If you do get a chance, do try and get into Lefkosia ( Nicosia) and take a walk through the old town, and along Ledras street, where you can now walk through the buffer zone, and cross the border into the Turkish occupied part of the city (remember to take your passport with you to do this) and of course, if you do get the chance ( though its a bit of a long trip to make on a scooter, come across to the east of the island just to visit Agia Napa and Protaras.....and maybe take a boat trip from Agia Napa harbour, along te coast to the ghost town of Famagusta. I would advise that you try and avoid Lemesos ( Limassol), as this can be very busy. Whatever you decide to do, I m sure you'll have a great time
