Where is the best place to stay in Athens?

Is it safe to go to Athens now?

  • Hi everyone! I'm thinking to go to Athens at the end of November for a week. BUT is it safe to go there now? Are there any riots now there and is it really safe to stay there for foreign travellers? And if I go there what is the best/safest place in Athens to book the hotel? Last time I lived in a hotel near Sintagma square, but this was in Decmber 2009. What about now?

  • Answer:

I sent my only daughter alone to Greece in August and she felt perfectly safe I was there in Sept/October and felt very safe as well Don't listen to trolls and Greek haters here, they are well known and they'll turn from black to yellow from jealousy

It has always been safe to go to Athens, ignore all the untrue statements here, starvation, riots etc.. they are a figment of the imagination of a group of obsessed beings trying to put tourists off going to Greece. It's beautiful, go and enjoy.

NOTE: We make known to you, that the answers from some users have no connection to the reality, they come from people who are mainly from Skopje-F.Y.R.O.M and Turkey, their IP prove that, and their multiple acounts too!!!(e.g black avatars) Just ignore the envious, pathetic trolls, they are provoking telling witting lies due to their nationalistic/fascist hate, because of "macedonian issue",or in case of Turks etc because of inferiority complex and nationalistic hate too..

Ι live in Athens the last 4 years. Tottaly safe.

Athens is perfectly safe. As safe as any European capital.

Athens is a safe european capital similar to every other big city in the west. The only problems that tourists face in the past was some delays in the transportation due to some protests but now all these is over. I hope you enjoy your stay there. Also I noticed that you get some wrong answers already. This happens because of the debate between Greece and skopja about the name of macedonia, so many people from there always try to make bad comments about Greece

Yes sure everything is fine. Nothing is wrong with the land of Ellada. What a lies. I wish the ground will open and the hell will swallow 's4ndr' with 'pacl' and the the rest of the liars. It is no accident that Greece is called Hell-as. Yep, as hell it does look sometimes. In early August in there I couldn't even get a fuel for my car and the food was measured like a gold too, due to the local shops shut like the Fort Knox. But everything is right they say. Well, go and see for your self. Stop living your life in denial and start telling the world the truth. @xaxaxa So, I am a He man now am I. ROFL What I am going to be tomorrow? A Hydra? lol

I don't know why it wouldn't be safe to go to Athens. I lived there once, back in 1990/91 (the Gulf War days) and the last time I went was already back in 1998. But, quite frankly, there's always been a lot of strikes, demonstrations and the occasional riot, so it's not something totally new. Hope you have a great time there!

100% safe.Don't read the negatives answers.

I have no idea why you want to go to Athens, there are thousands of places to visit in Greece much more beautiful than Athens. I have to tell you watch where you go when it's night.
