Where is the best place to stay in Athens?

Where is the center of Athens, Greece?

For spring break I'm going to Athens, Greece. I was wondering where the best place to stay would be so I don't have to spend money on transportation once I'm there. Can anyone let me know where this would be?
Answer:

The center of Athens can be considered Omonoia,Syntagma,Plaka,Kolonaki,Monastir… Just avoid Omonoia and the rest are great. My favourite places are Plaka and Suntagma. but the hotels there are a little bit more expensive :S

The center of Athens is around the Plaka/Omonia/Syntagma/Monastiraki/Kolona… areas. Plaka is a touristy place with the Acropolis above it, it could be the best place for you to stay.
