Is Mykonos Island,Greece a nice place for holiday?

    It's true, Mykonos is famous for gay crowds but I don't think that is the reason to avoid this beautiful island and its attractions: http://www.mediterranean-cruise-ports-easy.com/mykonos-attractions.html I used to go there while working on cruise ships and we never had a single cruise guest complain about anything. There are family beaches there, too, so it's very easy to avoid the gay scene. Besides, during the day, most of the party crowds are asleep anyway, recovering from the last night's parties ;) If you would like a sophisticated place to holiday in, with world class shopping, chic art galleries, cool cafes, superbly designed boutiques hotels and heavenly beaches...Mykonos is the place for you.

It the preferred island of homosexuals , so it you dont mind men in couples everywhere then its a lovely island to visit. Nudest beaches are common.

Mykonos is indeed a favorite destination for the homosexual oriented, and more or less every beach has a free nudist section. However, it is also a preferred destination for all tourists. I however usually suggest that the best place for holiday in Greece, especially for first time, its Crete, Crete is big, with a lot of choices, and many things to do.

You've basically got the right answers from others. My own perspective: there are many Greek islands, each with its own characteristics. Mykonos mostly attracts the "party crowd". You can certainly have a good time with your family there, but it's just not what the island is primarily geared for. Kimon's suggestion about Crete is a great one. There are also numerous smaller islands in both the Aegean and Ionian that might be better first-trip choices for a family than Mykonos. Do a little bit of internet homework on Greek islands.

I haven't been there yet, hopefully this summer. I have heard and from pictures i have seen, it looks bloody gorgeous. They say that the parties there are wild and last until the morning.
