Are there any Greek restaurants in Nice?

Why aren't there many greek restaurants?

  • I know many people on this site don't like reading, so the title probably says it all, but below is my story as to why I want to know. Basically, the other day, my brother came up to me and randomly said "You know you like greece, you know you like cooking, and you know you want to own a restaurant; you should open a greek take away since there's hardly any around" Despite the obvious, I decided to set out and prove him wrong and that there are just as many as other places. However, as much as I hate to say it, there are very few outside of london, and in my town, there's only one, even though there's several of every other ethnic food type I can think of. I then tried to find out why there were so few. And all I could find was some site explaining why one particular restaurant had to close down, which went on about quality. So, as a last resort, I'm going to get morons and trolls responding. If you have read this, well done. If you are someone who would like to help, please post below, and thank you for your time =)

  • Answer:

There are lots of Greek restaurants in London, especially in areas like Camden Town and Haringey. There's a best-kept secret one in Highgate which is amazing, but if you want the real McCoy then go to Haringey...

I live in Wisconsin. Aside from Greek "family" restaurants - which are not Greek at all - just huge amounts of food - we don't have any Greek take out.

He who hesitates is lost. If you believe in it go for it. I live in Greece for many months of each year and I like the food because all the vegetables and fruit come fresh from the fields or trees. A Greek meal is never rushed it is usually a constant flow of various foods over an hour or two. But if you simply want to dish up a plate of specific meals then try it out.

Maybe there isn't much demand for it in your area, or simply not enough people confident in their abilities to cook Greek food. I live in London where there are tons so its hard to say, but there are nationwide chains like the Real Greek in all major cities, right?

I live in Barcelona, Spain and here I just found one, well Spanish food and Greek food are quite similar.

Odd isn't it? I used to live in Birmingham ( I now live in Cyprus!), but I knopw there was only one Greek restaurant in our area, and only one good one in the city centre, though there is quite a large Greek population in the Birmingham area. It does seem sad that everything seems to be given over to Indian/Chinese/ Italian etc We have many Greek Cypriot friends here who had chip shops in the U.K. but all moved back when they felt they had made sufficient money to start a family life with a business here. Would be interesting to know why Greek Restaurants havent really taken off.....I'll have to ask some of my neighbours!

The fact that you anticipate morons and trolls to answer your question shows how much you think of it. To start with, your statement is lacking full strength because you do not state the place you are referring to for that lack of specific type. If your city is limited to other nationalities it is obvious that "demand and offer" will determine what will be there to take from. That is the staring point of your query. Finally, I could not make out what was the purpose of your question. Do you want us to tell you if you should open a Greek restaurant? Does the local clientele want something like that? After all you will be looking for the patronage of all nationalities and that will only be achieved, only by how good you are in what you do and what you offer, regardless of the nationality you will be catering for. I apologize for my trollish answer or possibly moronic, but as they say you ask a silly question you get a silly answer.

You can't expect many Greek restaurants in places where there aren't many Greeks. All large UK cities have Greek restaurants. A better question is why there are so few "real" Greek restaurants outside Greece. Most of what Brits think of as "Greek food" is actually "Greek-inspired but not Greek" food. ;)
