How is the life in Greece?

How has life changed in Greece since their economies downfall?

  • how has it affected their standard of living or just life in general?

  • Answer:

Although there is recession, not all people have changed their habits & lifestyle. There are people however who are facing very serious financial problems. Things keep getting worse & worse every minute, prices go up & salaries are going down. Many young people are thinking about leaving Greece to study/work abroad (there is nothing here for them really) & some other people are leaving big cities like Athens & go to live in the countryside where life is easier & less expensive. Some things are being neglected in the pretexte of the recession by government (although this doesn't always have to do with the actual lack of money but with the ignorance from the people in charge). Another example of how sad things are, is the rumor that the government won't be able to pay for the emprinting of books for the school year 2011-2012. (In my school, they asked us not to throw away our books so that we can give them to new students the next year.)

All crises affect quality of life. It is impossible to undergo any type of crisis and remain unchanged. Therefore, yes, a lot has changed in the everyday lives of Greek people. Most people say they manage to meet their basic needs, but cannot afford the things they could afford before the crisis (which is a very understandable outcome). What I find admirable about the Greeks is they have faith in their country and its potential. They are well aware of what Greece should be, the position it should normally be in. What happened to Greece was in three words: very bad management. Things are changing..will change. And maybe at the end of the day, this downfall, this crisis, will eventually result in Greece becoming much stronger than it was before. That's what crises do to people on a personal basis..And sometimes, the same happens to countries. It does take time to stand up on your feet again, but when you do you have survived, you have won, and you are wiser and stronger than you used to be...
