Can I travel by train to Lecce Italy?

Answer:
*Easiest way* There are regular buses from Naples to Brindisi and/or Bari. After getting there, you will need to Ferry across to Patras, Greece and make your way over to Athens in order to catch another Ferry or Plane to Santorini. There are no direct Ferry or flights from Brindisi or Bari to Athens or Santorini. Another option you may want to consider its, just take a flight from Naples to Athens and save a load of time and expense. You can ferry or fly to Santorini from Athens very easily and on a regular schedules. You wont be missing much as far as dramatic scenery by skipping the train or bus across that section of Italy to get to Brindisi and the ferry over to the West coast of Greece isn't a luxury experience either. I make this very trip from Rome, through Naples, over to Brindisi or Bari, overnight Ferry to Patras and then bus to Athens...several times a year for my job.

Ok its gonna take a while to do all that so i hope its a long holiday! I was there a few years ago so I'll tell you what I can remember. You can get from Naples to Sorrento by train. From Sorrento there is a bus to Salerno. Its not far but takes ages cos its a really winding road all down the Amalfi coast. Change in Salerno for the bus to Brindisi. Dont think they run too often so check out the times. It takes a few hours to get there. Brindisi is quite small, theres one hostel there thats quite friendly and the owner usually collects you to bring you there, you will find it on hostelworld.com. you can get to Lecce by train from there (about 1 hr), its well worth the visit, its a beautiful town. You can get a ferry from Brindisi to Greece, Patras I think. Then you need to get a bus or train to Athens. The port is a bit outside Athens its called Pireaus. Loads of boats going to all the islands from there. Santorini is about 9 or 10 hours from there by ferry. Think theres a fast boat too, takes much less time. Hope this helps & enjoy ur trip! xx
