We are both in our 20s and would like somewhere quiet,( no hussle and bussle and full of screaming teanagers etc!) but has everything there if we need it. We havent got a big budget so any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I would recommend Paphos. http://www.discoverpaphos.com/ Paphos is a city in south-west Cyprus. It is most renowned as the mythical birthplace of the goddess Aphrodite. It is said that after Aphrodite rose from the sea, she first set foot on land at Paphos. There is historical evidence that she was worshipped there at least since Homer’s time, as she is mentioned by name, along with Paphos, in his Odyssey. Holidays in Paphos are something you will remember forever and whether you stay in a Paphos villa or a hotel in Paphos we guarantee you will not be disappointed. The town of Paphos is located just 10km from Paphos Airport just a short taxi ride away. Car hiring in Paphos is also very popular and you can arrange to pick up your hire car at the airport. Holidays there will never be boring. There are so many museums, caves, and tombs to explore not to mention local art, vineyards, banana plantations, and much more. You can also relax on the beach and enjoy the magnificent weather. Most of the modern hotels and restaurants can be found along the seaside promenade and this is also home to the main shopping lane which runs parallel to the promenade and is the perfect place to pick up those all important souvenirs. One of the most popular hotels in Paphos is the Great Alexander Beach Hotel which offers excellent accommodation for all holiday guests. This is a luxurious award winning hotel that is situated on the beach and is only a few minutes walk from Paphos harbor and the town centre. You can also avail of holiday apartments in Paphos or indeed a Paphos villa for those who prefer self catering. Cyprus enjoys a Mediterranean climate which means that there are over 300 days of sunshine per year. Temperatures during summer months reach into the mid 30s and this makes for a great beach holiday and the beaches in Paphos are fantastic and include the extremely popular Coral Bay which is a breathtaking beach filled with miles of soft sand and deep blue waters making it the perfect location for water sports. There are four main beaches in Paphos and you can try your hand at a number of different water sports including, jet skiing, diving, snorkeling, fishing, and parasailing. Diving is also an option and there are a number of diving schools that will take you on guided tours. For a great family day out, there is also Paphos Aphrodite Waterpark. This is one of the largest tourist attractions in Paphos and boasts the largest number of facilities and the largest European family rafting ride. There is something for everyone at Paphos Aphrodite Waterpark and its a great way to spend a very enjoyable day.

Well, I think I would suggest Protaras. Everything you want or need in one place! Good selection of hotels are all based along the shoreline of soft, sandy beaches, and all are within easy reach of a good selection af shops, bars and restaurants ( Try, The Olympus, Cafe Parko, Il Basilica, ) From here, you're just a short drive/bus trip./taxi away from the lovely secluded cove of Konnos Bay, and just a little further on is Agia Napa. And, no, don't be put off, its not all clubs, lager louts and booze cruises! Theres a good selection of bars and restaurants ( Try Tonys Taverna, the Limelight, The Avenue, Romeos, and, down in the harbour; Vassoss Fish Restaurant) some great beaches too, but a little more commercialised than Protaras, but nice beaches all the same; Liminaki, Nisi, Adams, Lantra and Makronissoss....and Napa has Europes largest water park too. Take a boat trip from the harbour, along the coastline, taking in The Seacaves, Cavo Greko, Konnos Bay, Protaras, Pernera, and Kaparris, eventually turning around for the return journey as you reach the ghost town of Famagusta. The boat usually stops a coiuple of times so that passengers can swim fro the boat. A great day out, and all for just a few Euros. Make sure you take a trip into Larnaka, where there is plenty of shops and restaurants ( though the beaches aren't great here!) And take a trip to Lefkosia ( Nicosia). The checkpoint at the border in Ledras Street was opened up last year, so that you can now walk across to the Turkish occupied North ( you will need your passport if you decide to do this) Also, its worth a walk around the old part of Lefkosia wjere there are plenty of cosy little tavernas, all offering delicious food. Take a safari up to the Troodos Mountains too....some great views from upi there! Also....if you get a chance to fit it all in......go to Paphos, where you can visit Aphrodites rock, Aphrodites Birthplace, The House of Dionysus ( mosaics ) down in the harbour, along with the fort, and also take a look at the Tombs of The Kings. again, a good selection of restaurants etc in the harbour. The only place I wouldn't really recommend is Lemesos ( Limassol). It can get very busy...and very crowded. There is so much on offer here, I don't think you would be disappointed wherever you choose to stay, but I really think Protaras is the place for you. I live in Xylofagou, about 8K from Agia Napa.

Hi For the past 20 years i have travelled to Cyprus, i have stayed in Paphos, Limmasol, and Protaras, For the past 17 years i have stayed in Protaras that is my favourite, Protaras is one long street that has bars restaurants shops, also there is Pernera Area of Protaras which is quieter than Protaras this is where i stay, i found last year that Cyprus since joining the euro seemed to have gone expensive, BUT if you shop around you can get some fantastic deals, cheap food and drinks. I always hire a car when we are over there as they drive on the same side of the road as in UK, Larnaca is fantastic for shopping. I have Cypriot friends that live in Xylofagou, and Pedulas and i love seeing them every year, the people are lovely, I took Euro Travellers cheques last year for 100 euros travellers cheque we got 97 euros back they don't charge commission only for the postage, if you would like any further details email me, if i know of the hotel you are looking at booking i will tell you where it is and what it's like. I will be in Cyprus 5 th August.

im in my 20s, and in my mid teens i went to protaras with my family for 3 years in a row, there's some great restaurants, blue flag beaches, chilled out bars, its nowhere near as manic as ayia napa but its not too far away if you want to try a night out there. we stayed in sunrise beach hotel- 5* but well worth the money, relaxing and really good quality. the ayia napa waterpark isnt far, but there are plenty of things to do in protaras itself.

Protaras absolutely excellent, very cosmopolitan, quiet but still plenty to do. Troodros mountains absolutely gorgeous, tiny little villages hidden away, brill for trip out but not to stay, too far from anywhere. Paralimni very very quite, 15mins from protaras. Agia napa, crap, full of bimbos and dental floss up their bums. Cyprus best holiday place ever.Been 8 times! perhaps need a change. Crete fab too. If just two of you, direct holidays absolutely brill at giving cheap bargains. never ever paid more that 800 total for two of us for two weeks. have brill hol !!
Spookey
try protaras then..there are some really nice hotels on the beachfront, there are lots of bars and restaurants there, touristy but not overly busy, especially outwith the months of july and august. It's about 10mins away from ayia napa if u guys fancy giving it a look too..trust me,ayia napa gets a bad deal...it's not all drunken teenagers, the main square is set away from the lovely harbour area which is quieter. Paphos is more for the ''older'' traveller. Limassol ..i am sure u will find boring, there is not a lot to do there..

North (Turkish) Cyprus is cheaper than southern (Greek) Cyprus. The Greek side is very British like with familiar shops (M & S, Debenhams etc.). If you want adventure and something different go north otherwise Larnaca isn't full of screaming teens.
