Well let me put it this way.. KNOSSOS...the palace of minos IN CRETE...AROUND 1500....BC had HOT and COLD running water..not to mention showers and toilets that atcually flushed... as kimon say the irigation of ancient greece was maily underground and dug in ditches ..which had clay pipes to run on... some thign that is still used tot his day all around the world... they also had comunial toilets...and steam baths.. they even had a special nusery for infants to sit in mobile toilets as they had no nappies the romans had aqaduects and it was one of thier main source of settelment where ver they would go..to establish an aqauduct...they also had many things liek the greeks ..but with one diffrence... thier pipes where made from lead, they lasted for ever...and seldom broke down...but...LEAD IS A SLOW POSION..when consumed from lead pipes ..most romans where lucky to make it to 50 years old...most of them died from , lead posioning...with in rome at least and any other chief city. ALSO agricultrially speaking...the greeks had the clypsadia to brign up water in jugs and which where on a wheel usally turned by an animal of burden..which would empty the jugs in a running trough tot he fields... another water extraction invention was ARCHIMIDES SCREW.. this allowed water to esculate to t he top of ...its source... with the turn of the screw any water captured int he screw threads would fall att he end of the screw mechanisim..and spill into a trough ..
