Music Monday Review: Weeks 1 - 25?

1) Favourite Singer: Giannis Poulopoulos 1B) Why? Started my love for Greek Music 1C) Epefte Vathia Siopi 1D) The sound -the voice -when I first heard it I didn't understand it but it still made me sit down and listen. My parents bought it for me! Happy memories of Greece with my parents. Sadly, this song is rather apt now. 2A) Michalis Hatzigiannis -Na Esai Ekei 2B) Beautiful instrumental- love his voice and would love to have heard this song perforned by Giannis Poulopoulos

I had a hard time choosing because I can't narrow it down that easily. But it's definately between Michalis Xatzigiannis, Dimitris Mitropanos and Peggy Zina. I love Greek music. Their lyrics have so much meaning to them. When they sing, they show passion. I love it. I really had a hard time choosing though! And I'm doing this really quickly.... EDIT: I would also like to see Kaiti Garbi, Antzela Dimitriou, Notis Sfakianakis, Giannis Ploutarxos and Giorgos Dalaras! Those 5 would be great :) haha

Your list is not complete when important singers are not on it. Ntalaras, Parios, Alexiou to name a few that are not the same calibre of Hatzigiannis who is pc machine made both in lyrics and music. My personal choice is Parios and Vitali for their authentic voices and because both sing of love. An important fact of our lifes.

Tough question. Favorite singers would be Kazantzidis, Mitropanos, Poulopoulos and Terzis. Why? Because they are the best!!! Fave song? Probably ROZA.

Ayie mou, Glad to be able to see at last your whole list. I am disappointed that there will only be twenty-five--can you not continue? Airpole is right, there are several, if not many, who do not appear on your list. Personally, I should like to see my favourite, the wonderful Dimitra Galani, Nana Mouskouri and Haris Alexiou added, to say the least. To answer your question, of the twenty-five singers, I would have to put Marinella first, and Sakis Roubas second (sorry Saki, you receive Best Performer), and in third place a tie, Anna Vissi ( 2nd Best Performer) and Giannis Poulopoulos.

That's a nice way to wrap up your Music Monday questions which I have enjoyed ... reading and listening to the songs other users shared here. I have listened to quite a few and my favorite voice is still that of Mixalis Hatzigiannis. Smooth, rich, gentle and yet, very expressive. He also has my respect for composing and playing his own songs although many of them sound too 1990s-pop for me, I guess. Best songs are To Party, Pio Poly and Xeria Psila. I find the old Greek singers with special strong voices interesting although they are what I call acquired taste. Best individual song award goes to the one you so kindly translated for me - Diaspora by Glykeria. Add: Omg Vasiliki, that bouzouki in Manoula is magic, even Carlos Santana would be in awe.
