How far is Munich from Brussels by train?

Things to do in Brussels/ Train from London to Brussels?

  • I am going to take the train (euro-star? or Thayls? not sure exact name) from London to Brussels. I planned to got straight from there onto Brugges, but is it worth it to spend a day in Brussels? I have seen a lot of stuff about Brussels being super expensive and full of more pickpockets/scammers than Paris. Has anyone taken this train route, and have any tips or info? Are there any things that can be seen in a few hours in Brussels that are must sees? Thanks for any info.

  • Answer:

It's indeed the Eurostar-train you will take. You find more information about the connection to Bruges here: http://destinationsen.eurostar.com/sisp/index.htm?fx=location&loc_id=151745 Eurostar trains arrive at the first platforms of Brussels-Midi, trains to Brugge leave somewhere at platforms 10 to 20. You just have to walk from one platform to another. There is a train to Brugge every half an hour (direction Oostende or Knokke/Blankenberge - first stop is Gent, next is Bruges) To visit the Brussels market square (Grote Markt in Dutch, Grand Place in French - Brussels is bi-lingual) you have different options: - take metro 3 or 4 to "Beurs" (will take only 5 minutes) - take a train to Brussels Central (also only 5 minutes) - walk (ok, maybe 15-20 minutes) Just behind the Market you also find the statue of "Manneke Pis" (not that spectactular but Japanes and Americans like it very much). You can do a longer walking tour passing the Royal Palace, Le Samblon (place with a lot of anitques shops) and the Marollen (where a lot of real people of Brussels live, together with artists and all other kind of people...). During day it is totally safe - except of course for the traditional pickpockets like in every city. You can do this easily on half a day. So a good plan can be: leaving in the morning in London, walk some hours in Brussels and travel to Brugge before the evening. Just a tip: on working days, it can be busy on the train to Brugge in evening rush hours, that is between 16h and 18h.

The name of the train is Eurostar. And it will bring you straight into Brussels midi international, and from Brussels midi, the normal station you can catch a train to Brugge, takes about 18 minutes to transfer, the railways claim. Brussels is not "super expensive and full of more pickpockets/scammers than Paris" it is as safe or unsafe as any mayor city in Europe, likely a little bit less dangerous than London and Paris. I'd say go to the 'Grand Place' the main square and wander round in that area for a while. Or see the atomium. It is a completely different place from Brugge, so you would get 2 experiences for the (travel) price of one. By the way, you can expect pickpockets in all places around the world where people are in big amounts. Markets are infamous, but so are all mayor train stations and crowds in festivals and so on.
