Suggestions for a most practical itinerary: fly in to Brussels (AA or Delta) have direct flights from the US. From Brussels either by car (Highway to Luxembourg) or by train (From Quartier Leopold railroad station) proceed to Bastogne (for details see map or ask at ralroad for connecting trains from Namur) In Bastogne visit American War Monument and various places of the battlefield . You will see lots of Patton tanks on intersections as monuments to the american troops. After your visit to Bastogne proceed to Paris via Luxembourg and Reims. If you wish make a stop ar Reims to sample the champagne.(Its the capital of the famous wine area). In Paris I'm sure you know what to visit. After Paris head NW (train or car) and visit all the famous Normandy beaches: Sword, Juno etc, the famous villages : St Marie l'Église, Honfleur etc. Behind the beaches you will still find remains of the incredible concrete fortifications and conrete pillow boxes the Germans built there under the colective name "Atlantic Wall". You will certainly visit the military cemeteries of so many of your countrymen. I wish you a good trip.

Normandy is about a three hour train ride from Paris, epending on where in Normany you go. You HAVE to go to Le Mont St. Michel if you go to Normany. I rente a car from Aivs when we were in France last year and it went smoothly

Yes, Steve, you can see all that in a week or even less, everything being at only a couple of hours driving from each other. I don't know of any WWII Trip, but as always with travelling... the pleasure is in the surprises and the NON planning. Just rent a car from Paris, buy a map of France and southern Belgium, and go with the flow of the moment.

I live near Gent, Belgium. I've been to all those WW2 sites, and WW1. Cheap lodging? I highly recommend the chain of hotels called Formula 1. They are part of the ACCOR group of hotels that own Red Roof Inn and Motel 6. Always clean, continental breakfast for 4 euro. http://www.hotelformule1.com/formule1/index.html Paris? there are 7 hotels, but none are in the center, that's why they are very reasonably priced. the lowest price is Saint Denis centre Basilique. 32 euro for 2 people. You won't find anything better for less money! http://www.hotelformule1.com/gb/reservation/liste_hotels.shtml Just type in your city and see the results, you'll have to read some French... Money saving tip: Use your American credit card as much as possible. You will pay 100 dollars for 65 euro. If you go to the tourist exchange offices, you'll only get 57 euro / 100 $$. Renting a car? Did you know that gasoline is about $6.50 a US gallon? Take train and taxis.
