What to do on my cruise and how much money to take?
-
I am going on a 6 day cruise to ocho rios, the grand cayman, and cozumel. I was wandering how much money I should take, should I take cash, traveler's checks or just use my credit card. I have never been on a cruise before and I wanna have a good time. I was also wandering how much money I should set aside to go. Any ideas on things to do and the fun excursions would also be helpful. Thanks!!!

Answer:
The price of your cruise includes your cabin, all meals (including breakfast, lunch dinner, snacks and free room service), free admissions to all shows and entertainment, and free use of all facilities on ship except spa services. Everything on ship except the casino is cashless; everything you buy goes on your account. The things that you will have to pay for are: GRATUITIES: They will amount to about $10 to $11.50 per person in your cabin per day. When you check in at the pier they will set up an on-board charge account for you to cover any and everything you may buy on ship. They will issue you a "cruise card" which will also serve as your room key and pass to get on and off the ship. At the end of the cruise they will add the gratuity to your tab and you can pay with a credit card or cash, your choice. ALCOHOLIC DRINKS AND SOFT DRINKS: Coffee, tea, milk, juice, and lemonade and punch will be provided FREE but you must pay for soft drinks and alcoholic beverages and they will add a 15 percent gratuity to each drink and soft drink order. PHOTOGRAPHS: Cruise ship employees will take plenty of photographs of you all over the ship, in the dining room, and as you exit the ship in ports and these will cost $15 to $25 for most but the cost of them goes on your on-board tab. TOURS/EXCURSIONS: You are not required to book any tours and can get off and on in the ports as much as you want. But the cruise line will offer a lot of tours and these will cost between about $30 and $100 each person for most. If you book tours after you are on the ship they will charge them to your on-board account. SOUVENIRS: Anything you buy on ship from a gift shop or duty free shop goes on your on board account. SPA SERVICES: If you want/need to have your hair done, get a massage or wrap, or any services from the spa, you will have to pay for them. INTERNET SVCS: Ships now have internet cafe and some have WiFi but the there is a fee for internet access and it is very expensive (like about $50 an hour) Now, after saying all that my advice is take $200 to $300 and you can get more from an ATM if you need it. That's about what I take on a 7 day cruise and rarely use it all. If you decide to take more cash you can lock it in the safe in your cabin. The ship has an ATM and depending upon what port stops you make you will likely find ATM's there also. Plus, if you need cash you can always go to the casino (when its open) and get cash on your cruise card. Ocho Rios: go to Dunn's River Falls or do a river raft or tube raft trip Cozumel: snorkel or anything beach related , or go to the Mayan ruins Grand Cayman: take a taxi to 7-Mile Beach (about $5.00 US each way).

When you go on a cruise, they give you something like a credit card that is only used on the ship. this card is linked to one of your credit cards so that you dont need to carry traveler checks and money on the boat..however make sure you check the charges frequently because it does rack up rather quickly!!! as for shopping at the ports, def do not use your credit card...travelers checks my be good and cash is good also but do not carry big bills around that you have to make change..I Have been to both ocho rios and grand caymen and they are both beautiful...grand caymen is a VERY VERY expensive island so i didnt buy much there. But ocho rios is very reasonable, just be very careful, dont be flashy with your money or jewelry...... Something to do in ocho rios...you should def try the dunn's river falls climb, or snorkling...they are both great!

Grand Cayman islands are fun! Bring a lot of cash....you will love all the stores. Be prepared to gamble a lot because that is how cruise ships take your money. So have fun and if you like a good bar in Grand Cayman there is a restaurant called Eats. It is fun and good! Have a blast.
