Volunteer Work in Haiti?

Going to Haiti for payed work?

  • Is all of the work that has been sent to Haiti volunteer? If they are paying for people to go to Haiti and help clean up please give everything you know and a website linking you to where you would go to apply.

  • Answer:

Not a travel question. Haiti is full of unemployed people - 60% unemployment rate, or something like that - BEFORE the earthquake. I'm sure if/when they are ready to hand out paid [note spelling], Haitians will get first chance. Unless you are a professional - say, a doc or engineer or something similar - they wouldn't need you. Of course, you could always sign up with a volunteer group, e.g. Habitat for Humanity.

Other answers

Haiti is full of poor, unemployed people. If there are paying jobs for unskilled workers, they will get the first chance at them. Unless you're a doctor or engineer, there probably aren't any paying jobs for outsiders.
