What Caribbean island has the best employment rate?

Moving to a Caribbean Island from Canada?

  • I've lived in Canada all my life but my parents were born and have lived in the west indies (Jamaica,Barbados). I still young and in high school but I'm thinking that in the future I like to move to one of the islands in the west indies.I kind of feel as though I'm missing this huge chunk of myself because I not accustoms to any of my roots and I was hoping if I moved there I be able to get some back. I've only been to barbados once when I was younger and I've never been to jamaica. I would mind living in Barbados but I heard living cost are high and the unemployment rate is high. Nor would I mind to live in Jamaica, but worried about the crime rate. Could someone please give me some info on a variety of islands in the west indies that you think are easy to find jobs, the living cost is average and the crime rate is tolerable, and the people are considerably nice. My Mom occasionally talks patois with me, but last time went to Barbados I could barely understand what my relatives were saying to me, So I worry about me not being very good or fluent at Bajan and Jamaican Dialect or any other west indian dialect. Would I be difficult to learn it.

  • Answer:

The unemployment level in Barbados is not that high. Are you a Barbadian citizen? If not and wish to immigrate here you would have to be skilled in an area that a citizen is not. All jobs must be offered to citizens first. You would not be able to work here unless you get a work permit. The same applies for all other islands. Bajans do not speak patois...lol. So please don't come here talking about that. We speak 'bajan'. Its quite easy to pick up. I guess you weren't here that long when you were younger but its simple really. I can't tell you about jobs unless you specify what particular field you're interested in. Its a world wide recession and living costs are going to be high here in the Caribbean for a while as we import most things. Any other questions feel free to message me
