Does anyone here attend Uwi in Trinidad?

Challenges faced in UWI...?

  • i have this presentation to do for my Caribbean Studies class and the teacher wants us to state what are some challenges faced by UWI. So far according to one professor there is a 'problem with discrimination'. does anyone know of any challenges being faced by UWI? it doesn't matter if it is is trinidad, jamaica or barbados.

  • Answer:

The discrimination your speaking about involves primarily students that cannot afford to attend. While these students have been accepted and placed, they do not have the monetary funds to pay for the education. There is an ongoing argument within staff as to the extent of this problem. Student statistics do not fully recognize the problem as no one seems to know if they just quit or left for financial reasons. From the numerous dialogues published it seems to me that there are indeed successful students that leave for lack of funding. A very unfortunate situation. Students with both the desire to attend and the intelligence to succeed are falling through the cracks.
