What Caribbean island to live on?
-
I have been trying to do some research on moving to the Caribbean, but I'm still not quite sure which island to move to since theirs over 7000 islands. I'm looking for average/low cost of living and real estate as well as low crime rate. Predominantly English speaking and friendly people

Answer:
Your are looking for a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow here. There is no such thing as a low cost of living island. The ones that are not owned by the US will have hoops for you to jump through in order for you to move there. Many requiere a bank statement that shows you have enough money to live without working. Some require flat out that you be independantly wealthy before accepting you as a resident.

WHY do you people never say what your NATIONALITY is? Moving to any island in the caribbean is not like moving to IOWA.. there are tons of rules and regulations and without knowing what YOUR nationality is, I can't give you any specific information.... What I can tell you is, every year I have seen a few hundred people with island dreams in their hearts. They can only talk English.. they don't know the languages of the island they settle on and think everyone should learn English so they don't have to learn Creolr or Spanish or French and these people come to the Caribbean thinking they are going to find a good job and buy a shack on a beach and live happily ever after.. they come here.. spend what little money they brought with them.. find out there are no jobs or shack filled beaches.. go broke and go back home to Amerika or Europe in a few weeks or a few months. I have lived in the Caribbean for about 20 years and have had my boat in Antigua for about 10 years now. I love the island and the people ad As caribbean islands go, it's clean and relatively safe. The average income is about $16,000 USD equivalent per year, so it compares with a lot of small towns in other countries.

Some Caribbean Islands are independent countries. some are territories of European countries. some are territories of the U.S. Do you know that you cannot just "move" to a foreign county? You must qualify for a residence visa...and if you need to work, a work visa. this is extremely difficult as no country gives those out easily. If you are American, it would be best to choose a U.S. territory like Puerto Rico or the U.S. Virgin Islands...which have a high cost of living. If you choose a few to look into, then you need to go to the website of the embassy of that country to the U.S. and research visa requirements. You will find that any island that belongs to a European nation will be imposible to get a visa in. You would do well to consider the Florida Keys, Puerto Rico or the U.S. V.I. to avoid visa problems. But , they are not cheap.
