American relocating to Caribbean or Mexico to work??

  • I am a female graduating this December with a Bachelor's degree in Travel & Tourism, with a concentration in Tourism Destination Management. I am very interested in moving to a resort area in the Caribbean or Mexico, and working for a resort, ideally where they provide housing because I know that's pretty common. However, I'm not sure where to start. I've looked on jobs pages on some reputable resorts I know of, but found they had little info. I've also looked on Craig's List which is sketchy, and some work abroad web sites but their programs have specific requirements. I'll be a college graduate looking to go at some point next year on a short term basis (6 months to a year). Any info on where I should look or how to get started is much appreciated!! Also, if you are an American and have done this yourself, I'd appreciate any advice/concerns. Thanks so much!

  • Answer:

Your best bet may be to approach one of the major US Hotel chains and ask if they have an apprentice program which has slots in that region. Parts of Mexico can be very dangerous so research well and consider carefully.
