Where can a US Citizen travel to in the Carribean for a 1 week excursion that would not require a passport?
-
And would travel by boat / cruise ship eliminate the need to have a passport? The goal is an excursion to travel for 1 week to someplace outside the continental US that can be booked quickly (within 1 week) and not require a passport which will take time for multiple travelerss to arrange. Suggestions?

Answer:
The only option you have, aside from PR and the USVI, is to take a closed-loop cruise (where you depart from and return to the same US port). Every other island/option will require you to have a passport, regardless of the length of your stay.

USVI or Puerto Rico are your choices.

San Juan, PR might be your only option, if you are unwilling to travel to St. John's or St. Mark's. I've been to the USVI several times without any negative issues, but the last time was in the 1990s, so things may have changed. Entry into any foreign country will require a passport. If you are on a cruise that will dock at any foreign country, you will need a passport. Good luck. Let us know what you decide!

Well GAWD FORBID you have to get a PASSPORT.. Amerikans NEVER seem to think they should have a PASSPORT to go to a foreign country... well.. Amerikans can no longer go to a FOREIGN COUNTRY with just an expired driver's license and an old utility bill. The ONLY PLACES that an AMERIKAN can go in the Caribbean is to the AMERIKAN PLACES.. and that is limited to Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands..
A passport is required for air travel. If you take a cruise, you need photo id such as a driver's license, and your birth certificate.
