Which island(s) in the Caribbean has the most crime- how does Nassau rate?
-
Trying to find out which island I might want to avoid and which one is good. Went to Nassau last year- PI was great but felt very uneasy after crossing the bridge into Nassau at night on foot. Got approached by about 3 people in <15 minutes- back over the bridge in a hurry and worries after that. I like that PI has a lot to do and great beaches but are there any other islands in the area that anyone can recommend? Looking for a safe place with things to do and great snorkeling/beaches.

Answer:
I see you have a craving for the Cayman Islands then, check out www.caymanislands.ky for detailed information & description as to what to expect. Outside of that, I would recommend the Bay Islands of Honduras, especially Roatan.

The most crime in the Caribbean is in Jamaica, St Thomas USVI, and Puerto Rico. For what you're seeking: 1. The Bahamas out-islands. 2. Turks & Caicos islands. 3. St Martin 4. Grand Cayman islands. 5. St Vincent & The Grenadines. As far as "crime & safety" goes, you gotta watch your @$$ NO MATTER WHERE you are. There's crime everywhere. You can get mugged on Pennsylvania Ave, in front of the White House. As a whole, the Caribbean islands are relatively "safe", in that much of their economy revolves around tourism; therefore, the local police patrol the tourist areas well. My wife & I vacationed on St Martin this past summer. I can recommend this island highly for restaurants, beaches & beach bars, casinos, and "things to do". And... the gendarmes were visibly present daily.

The islands that have the highest crime rates that I know of are The Bahamas,Jamaica,St.Thomas,Trinidad. The other islands are fine, but of course there is still crime, just be cautious and aware. when ur a tourist for some reason people figure you have alot of money.

Does not look like a safe place to be in. What are the police over there doing? If a place attracts many tourist, there must be some magic over there despite the inherent dangers to a tourist.
