What's the most affordable island in the Caribbean for vacation?

Caribbean Island Vacation?

  • I am planning a trip to the caribbean for February, 2011. Any ideas for which island to visit. My husband and I will be going and are looking for reasonable rates. We will not be traveling with children and are looking for a relaxing beach vacation. We are not that interested in adventurous activities, mostly laying on beach and enjoying food and drink during the day. A quiet, relaxing get away. Any ideas?

I'd recommend St Martin. Lots and Lots of Beaches, possible that the 2 of you could have an entire beach to yourself. Excellent food. I found it quite inexpensive. I would not recommend Aruba unless the 2 of you want to do alot of snorkeling or scuba diving. The person that said there are alot of beaches on Aruba is incorrect. There are primarily 2 beaches on the island Eagle and Palm beach. They are side by side up on the northwest side of the island. Most of the coastline do not have beaches. It is also quite commericalized and more expensive than most caribean islands.

Depends where you're coming from, but Martinique or Guadeloupe could be a good choice! Or Bonnaire. Not the typical island, but Mexico has pretty beaches and great rates, too. However, the ideal for your purpose could be the Bay Islands off shore Honduras (Roatan, Guanaja, Utila). Superbe and excellent rates because of high inflation. Do some research! Cayman Islands are nice but way too crowded and pretty expensive.

My vote for a Caribbean vacation would be one to the Dominican Republic! It’s one of my favorite spots. If I were you, I’d check out Dreams Resorts. I have visited Dreams Palm Beach Punta Cana and honestly do not have a bad thing to say about it. While I believe Dreams has two resorts in Punta Cana, this one is located just 20 minutes from the Punta Cana airport. The resort itself is absolutely beautiful and offers plenty to do both during the day and at night including water sports, theme parties, movies on the beach and more! There’s also a gorgeous beach and three beautiful pools if you just want to lounge under an umbrella all day long! The resort features six restaurants and five bars so there’s a ton of variety. The staff and service really make you feel right at home and cater to your every need. Best of luck choosing a resort! Have a great vacation!

I have been to Cuba a few times. There is a lot to see and do if you are interested in history. The northern beaches are fantastic. Stay in a 4+ star for better food. You don't have to worry about the water or food outside the resort. All inclusive is always the best. The entertainment is amazing and the people are wonderful. I like seeing different places but will not hesitate to go back to a different part of the island.

I would most definitely recommend St. Lucia. It's not as commercialized as St. Bart's or St.Maarten's. It is quiet, not that expensive and people are wonderful. The beaches are gorgeous!! Research Royal by Rex Resorts - great value and amazing accommodations. No crowds. Remember - February is high season for Carribean so they might be more crowded. Have fun! :)

Jamaica has some nice resorts but for the most beautiful place go to the Grand Cayman Islands!
