Would someone suggestion a Caribbean location for a destination wedding?
-
We are thinking of a Caribbean destination wedding because we are both disinterested in a big fancy event with people who don't know well. Our families are very supportive of this idea. I don't know much about the Caribbean islands and wanted a place that has enough to do for everyone to enjoy a mini vacation (not with us the whole time of course) such as explore, sightsee, do physical activities and dine, etc. And beachtime of course! Has anyone had experience with a destination wedding / honeymoon with close family?

I went to a destination wedding at Beaches Turks & Caicos and it was amazing! The resort is huge and a lot of fun, but the price is high so if you're paying for everyone, or budget is an issue, it may not be the best option. A friend of ours was married at their Jamaica property, Beaches Negril, which is cheaper than the Turks resort. The photos came out great (we didn't attend but we have been to Negril and it's beautiful) and she was VERY happy with everything. There is a couple's only sister property (Sandals Negril) down the beach from here with free exchange option so that if your family wants to stay at the Beaches resort and you guys want to stay at the couple's resort, you can visit and hang out with them during your stay but at night return to your resort where it's a more romantic and private atmosphere. Look into a destination wedding planner to help you guys, most are free if budget is a concern. That will make it much easier on everyone involved in the planning and booking process. They know all the requirements, keep track of payment schedules, and whoever has questions can go to them instead of stressing you out with a bunch of calls and emails about every little thing when you have enough on your plate.

As you have probably heard before, destination weddings are considered to be in very bad taste. That's because they place an undue burden on guests or the wedding party due to the costs of travel and lodging, along with the schedule conflicts and just plain hassle involved. Everyone that I have ever known that has had a destination wedding has ended up regretting it. Most people just consider it selfish and rude to have a destination wedding. It has been compared to taking the entire wedding party on your honeymoon- not good! All that being said, you can still get married in the Caribbean without all the hassle for others, Since you don't want a big wedding anyway, you can make it intentionally very small with no undue burden on others. Have an elopement to the Caribbean with just you and the groom. It's like the destination wedding, but with a lot less hassle. You and your spouse combine the honeymoon and the wedding in one event. As for location, Puerto Rico has the advantage of still being considered part of the U.S. Travel there is easier and there are beautiful resort areas. The U.S. Virgin Islands would probably be my second choice.

I am not married yet but i will definitely choose to have a destination wedding too. I just don't want to go through the whole big wedding thing. Maybe a small trip with close friend and relative, but nothing more than that my friend got married in Jamaica. She and her husband exchange vows on the beach. i remember that they stay in a resort at Sandals Negril

Just about ANY of the resorts and hotels in the Caribbean will be happy to have your wedding business. I don't know of any but the cheapest resorts and hotels that lack a scenic place to get married with good picture taking possibilities. Your question has several THOUSAND possible answers. and what is important to YOU may not be important to anyone else. When someone asks that question you asked, and don't give any more specific information that "I want to get married there" there is just no way to answer it. Instead of giving you the usual canned answer about going to some tourist over run island like everyone else does.. let me ask you if you would consider a PRIVATE SAILING CHARTER.. You could even take your family and friends with you and go where and when you wish.. and it won't cost any more than going to a 5 star resort.
