When did cruise ships stop having different classes?

Cruise ships and jamaica?

  • i heard that in a couple years many cruise ships may stop making trips to jamaica becuz its becoming 2 dangerous. is that tru?

  • Answer:

I went there on a ship, and Jamaica like most islands can be dangerous, but the key is to stay where the rest of the tourists are. Don't venture off, my fathers friend one time was there for a week, and decided to drive off to the store. There was a tree branch in the road, so he got out to move it and three locals took a knife to his throat and stole the car. So say with your group, do a tour activity, and don't walk around all alone.

Cruises to Jamaica are great if you don't get off the boat. I was in Jamaica (not on a cruise) for a week in 2007. Our ocean front home had permanent security patrolling the house and grounds 24/7. The beach traffic was highly concerning. Also, if you ever want to see pressure sales of souvenirs wait until you see the Jamaican sales force! Relentless! Once you get out of tourist areas the safety level disintegrates quickly but stick to the beaten paths and you should be fine, hopefully...

as long as the food is well cooked and prepared, it should be a safe and enjoyable trip if properly planned.

why would you want to go? you ever see locked up abroad. if you watch it you'll never leave the U.S.A. <><

Yes. Princess Cruises will be dropping Jamaica as a stop, due to passenger complaints. And it is becoming dangerous. Cruise ship shore tours have been held up by machete, etc. The locals exert extreme pressure to buy their junk. Some dealers will sell tourists drugs then call over the police to arrest them [they're in cahoots to extort $]. Etc, etc. I've been there three times on cruises. If I were ever to have that as a port stop again [unlikely, as I usually rule out itineraries that include Jamaica], I would just stay on the ship.

Jamaica and The Bahamas have recently been fined by Uebersax due to producing ‘high fecal pollution’ and now, as a result of this, the countries are being encouraged to discourage tourism for a short while until pollution levels decrease. thats all i know about vacations stopping in Jamaica, as for the danger side, I don't think so

Jamaica isn't even in the danger zone of the Somali pirates. I don't think that the Somali pirates would even have the resources or kahunas to start treading in another country's territorial waters. As far as Jamaica itself, as long as you stick to the tourist areas you should be fine.

I very well doubt that. Although, cruise ship only dock in Jamaica on Thursdays. My husband and I cruised to Jamaica last Feb. and it was very safe. When we got to the port you are barraged by taxi drivers--so we bartered with one to drive us around all day. He took us to Rose Hill mansion (you will die when you see the views from the windows)! Then to Half Moon Resort, walked around for about a half an hour. He left us there to talk to some other taxi buddies by the entrance and was right back. Then he took us Rose Hill Golf Resort. Then drove us around downtown Montego Bay, then up a steep him to Richmand Hill Resort Hotel. The views are stunning! Then took us to the "Hip Strip" and let us walk around. My husband was offered several times any drug that he wanted especially ganja. The bracelet sales are pretty heavy. But when we went to the beach they sell you a chair and then try to sell you an umbrella! I told him I'm a white girl from Iowa and I want the sun!! They also have very good food & drink waitresses at Doctor's Cave Beach. All in all, the taxi driver wasn't going to lose us because we did not pay him until he took us back to the port. Cost us around $200 US. VERY WORTH IT!!! If you would like I could email you pictures-just ask: [email protected]

Ughhh, I can't imagine a worse vacation than being stuck in a tin box on water for days, then end up on an island full of germs, disease, thieves, and poverty.
