What's the best hotel in St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands?

Whats a better place st thomas or cayman island?

  • im thinkin bout traveling to either st. thomas or the cayman islands. just wnt to know about the pros and cons.

  • Answer:

It depends on what you're interested in doing. Snorkeling or diving: Grand Cayman hands down...there are also places in St Thomas to snorkel, including St John which is a 30 min ferry ride away and 80% is national forest... Shopping: St Thomas (duty free) is widely regarded as the best place in the Caribbean for shopping...there is also plenty of shopping in Cayman, but not the variety or value you find in St Thomas Scenery: St Thomas...it is a mountainous island and has BREATHTAKING scenery...Grand Cayman and most of the little Caymans ARE mountains under the water...so your experience of them is fairly flat. Nightlife: About equal Side Trips: St Thomas...there are a dozen islands of both the USVI and the BVI within a few hours boat ride for day trips...there are just the few Cayman islands to explore easily and several arent inhabited Weather in general: St Thomas if you like cooling breezes in the summer cause it gets REALLY hot in the Caribbean...now that also means an occasional shower, but they rarely last more than an hour...if you're going in hurricane season, you're more likely to experience effects here, tho still pretty rare...I baked in Grand Cayman which is great if you tan easily and have ready access to ocean or pool at all times...fewer showers and less chance of hurricans cause it's more southern in orientation... So, my choice would be St Thomas for the average person who likes to be in a resort with a kick-*** view, easy access to the sea, ability to find places with few people or have civilization within 20 min ride, wants a variety of things to do including snorkel/dive, shop, and nightlife but still have an adventure or two by visiting nearby islands with totally different flavors... Now, if you are like me who prefers to go find people when I'm ready for them/want to have fun, but want peace and quiet and nature til then, find a place on St John and ferry over to St Thomas or split your time between the two...if you're more of a people person 24/7 stay on St Thomas itself. Now, if you're an American citizen I don't think you need a passport for St Thomas as long as your flight leaves from the mainland. You probably want to check that tho. You will still have to go thru customs because of having to declare imports. You will need a passport for Grand Cayman. There are plenty of peeps who will say theirs never got checked, but you need to have it because if they ask for it and you don't have it, you're stuck in the airport til they fly you home. Hope this helps! We were just in St Thomas again in March and Cayman a year ago! Loved them both!! You won't be disappointed either way. Have a great trip!

Been to both and loved both of them. Both have exceent beaches with very clear water. Grand Caymen is less crowded and has a much higher standard of living. Much easier to get around too. If I was to have to choose, I would do Grand Cayman again. With that said, I'm not putting down the USVI becuase I love them also.
