U.S. Virgin Islands? St. Thomas?
-
Our family was thinking about going to St. Thomas on vacation next year but i was wondering since the virgin islands are owned by the united states would you need a passport? Also for anyone who has ever been there how was your experience? What were things you did while you were there, and does anyone know of a nice all inclusive hotel to stay at? (in St.Thomas) One thing i have always wanted to do since i was a little girl was to swim with dolphins, can you do that there? and if so how much does it cost? i know thats alot but it would help me a great deal thanks!

Wow, that's a lot of questions! LOL! Ok, I'll do my best to answer them: 1. US Passports are not required to enter the US Virgin Islands or to return to the United States from the US Virgin Islands. Drivers licenses and birth certificates will suffice. 2. The Wyndham Sugar Bay Resort and Bolongo Bay Beach Resort are all inclusive. 3. While I've seen dolphins swimming around here on a few occasions there's no service that specializes in arranging dolphin swims. You'll just have to get lucky. :) 4. I live on St. Thomas so I'm a bit biased in terms of the experience so I've posted a couple links below so you can see it for yourself.

St Thomas is so great that when i visited in 1993 i moved here in 1995.(that's how long it took me to pack everything).st Thomas is us territory you don't need a pass port if you are a us resident.now in st Thomas there are many thing to do lots of tours, but to me the best thing to do is rent a comfortable auto, and explore the island it's cheaper, but do take a tour. about the dolphins i think you could island hop. there is st john,20 minutes away, the dolphins are in British virgin island that's about 45 minutes away,i don't think you need a pass port but to be on the safe side call immigration. if you drive your self to the docks in read hook you can take the ferry to the BVI you must go there. st Thomas is one of the best vacation i every had and is still having.you could go to the Marriott Frenchman's Reef it's a little pricey. for privacy check out Secret Harbor, you could also check into Ritz Carlton all of St Thomas hotels are FABULOUS &CLEAN AND FULL OF HOSPITILITY. Welcome To St Thomas.

I just went to St. Thomas for my honeymoon in November! It was one of the most beautiful places I have been in the caribbean. We stayed at the Wyndham Sugar Bay but the Fisherman Reef or Wharf (can't remember?) is also nice and recently renovated. If you go rent a car. (they drive on the opposite side of the road and a little crazy with the horns) We shopped in Charlotte Amalie one day, tons of duty free jewelry and liquor. We went to Red Hook and took our car on the ferry to St John and snorkled for a day. St John is much cleaner than St Thomas but there is less to do. the Red Hook area also has a lot of food and nightlife. We rode the tram up the mountain for a sunset party (lots of fun, food, dancing and drinks) Went to Magens bay were the water is clear but calm like a lake! Our resort also offered ocean kayaking and we booked a sunset cruise on a catamaran one evening. The only thing we wanted to do but ran out of money for was take a day trip to the BVI (British Virgin Islands) It's so close it's silly not to go ahead and go. We did not need a passport and my cell phone worked free of charge over there. I know that st thomas had an oceanarium kind of place but I am unsure if they offered Dolphin encounters.

My trust and wishes are that you choose to visit us here in paradise. While a passport is not required, it is something that I always recommend my guests to have. You may travel on a drivers license with a ORIGINAL birth certificate with the raised seal or stamp (no copies). St. Thomas is a beautiful place to visit with lot's of activities, fabulous beaches and lot's of exciting night life. There are other beautiful islands that are also a hippity hop of a short boat ride away (15 minutes to St. John). There are some fabulous hotels that are inclusive the other poster's gave you some good options. Wyndham Sugar Bay is one and probably the best for being inclusive. But there are other hotels as well as private villas. You may swim with the dolphins, BUT this is done on the nearby island of Tortola, British Virgin Islands which is a 45-55 minute boat ride away. You may also travel to Tortola on a original birth certificate and driver's license through the end of this year. But again, I always recommend a passport. I am not sure of the cost but you may visit www.dolphindiscovery.com for more information.

1. My mother was born and raised in St.Thomas V.I. So I haved visited there many times. Because St. Thomas is U.S. territory, citizens of the U.S. will not need a passport. Unless you plan to visit the British Virgin Islands. 2.There are lovely beaces there my cousins took me to see such as Magen's Bay and Coki Point. Lots of people can go scuba diving and see the beautiful coral reefs. It was a breathtaking experience. 3.When I was there we had suprise birthday party for my mom on Christmas day. My cousins and I went to the mall to go shopping but the mall was very small. We walked down to the beach a lot. We took a safari bus around the island. First we took the ferry to St. John to mainly visit family but we also took a tour around the island. The scenery on both islands are beautiful. We also visited Tortola in the British Virgin Islands. I tried some of the native food such as boiled fish, kalilou,(probably spelled wrong) and conch. One time we went to see my cousin in the carnival in April. It was a lot of fun. It was almost like the Mardi Gras parade in New Orleans. 4. My aunt works at the Ritz Carlton hotel, it is very nice and very exspensive. We stayed near Sapphire beach hotel. Instead of a hotel we rented someones beach side villa. The porch was overlooking a dock where many boats were parked. The ocean view was very beautiful. The only thing I did not like was seeing iguanas crawling around. It was creepy. But they do not bother you. Another hotel is Frenchman Reef. There are also great campsites too, especially in St.John. Some people choose to stay at a campground. 5. I know there are dolphins there but I never had the chance to see one. I heard you can swim with the dolphins in the British Virgin Islands for $149.00 but I haven't heard where there is somewhere you can swim with the dolphins in the V.I. Oh, and you have to remember to bring mosquito repellent. Tat's very important. I hoped I help.
