I'd like to live in the islands, not just vacation there.. Anyone got any suggestions?

Hello everyone, im interested in living in these wonderful islands. Im not just looking for a nice vacation getaway, i currently live in the USA. Im about to graduate from high school in 2 weeks and i just moved out of my dads house this week. Ive been through a lot of family problems, and these things have affected me but i feel my mind is now clear and im ready to move on and not look back. I've witnessed and lived through tough and great economic times and the money is truly only temporary. I was raised in miami florida, and was poor. then i moved to virginia beach virginia and then my mom and dad had a fair amount of money. then they had a lot of money and my mom left and took it. Ive been at the top and bottom of the slide as far as thats concerned and that has affected me a lot. I actually liked it the most when we had little to no money. I feel like those were actually my favorite times. I dont care much for money and i know here in the united states thats what fuels everything. i want to get away from that. so what i wont have a lot of money somewhere and ill be barely getting by. Id rather work to live then live to work. So now i am making my decision. i have a friend in puerto rico who has said i should come down there for a while and see if i like it. if i cant get any other reccomendations on a good island to live on then i will go there. The things i want out of living in the caribbean are - - nice warm beaches at night where i can just kick back with a drink in one hand and a beautiful girl in the other. - maybe some jungles that i can go through. - a good culture that has pride in the way they live, and they know they are living a good life. - a place that isnt a huge tourist area, i want to become a true local. for i have lived in miami and va beach which are both tourist areas in my eyes. thats really all i want. im not gonna save up a bunch of money just in case something happens and i want to come back, im just gonna go. call me stupid or whatever but this is what i want and will learn from this experience as i go. thank you for reading, hope you have a place in mind for me. PEACE!

Answer:
The FIRST THING you need to do is get over your CHILDISH FANTASY.. your posting shows you don't have a CLUE what you are getting yourself into.. so you need to get REALISTIC. The NEXT THING you need to do is LEARN THE LANGUAGES of the Caribbean.. at a MINIMUM you need to be FLUENT in Spanish and even FRENCH if you plan to live your life in the Caribbean. YOu will need a PASSPORT and about $5000 (minimum) in CASH to see you through the first year in the Islands and you MUST HAVE a MARKETABLE skill.. and I suggest REFRIGERATION and AUTO and DIESEL MECHANICS if you hope to have a CHANCE of even finding a job in an area with HIGH UNEMPLOYMENT. The NEXT THING you will need to do is get a PASSPORT.. If you try to be like the average AmeriKan who has this 'THING' about not wanting a PASSPORT you will be very limited as to where you can go in the Caribbean. Amerikans all think they should be able to go to FOREIGN COUNTRIES with just an expired Driver's license and an old Utility Bill. That's pretty much it..

Money makes the world go round no matter where you live. Just be aware that no other country is as flexible with immigration so you will need a job at the very least and a lot of money saved for most.

I agree that I also think you are dreaming in a fantasy land. But if you REALLY want to try and see what it is like, take your friend up on his offer and go to P.R. You do NOT need a passport to go there because it is a U.S. territory. Anywhere else except the U.S. Virgin Islands is a no go. You would need a passport and a work permit at the minimum. To get a work permit you need to find a job there and your future employer has to get it for you. Not very likely for a kid out of high school.
