If anybody knows anything regarding these matters you would be a Saint to help me. thank you

  • Answer:

UPR Rio Piedras is in Rio Piedras which is a different district of San Juan than Old San Juan. It's further inland in an Urban Area close to the Hato Rey financial district. It's fairly easy to get to Old San Juan from there though without a car, take the train to the Sagrado Corazón station and from there take a bus into the old city. It should take less than 45 minutes. The only postsecondary institutions in Old San Juan are the UPR Biomedical Sciences institution, CUNI San Juan Caribbean and Latin American Studies, and Escuela de Artes Plasticas (fine arts school). I studied there for a few semesters and it's baseically the same as any large state school in the US, except in Spanish. UPR has a fairly decent sized international community, so don't worry about being treated poorly as an American. There are shady people there, like everywhere else, so just take precautions. It's like being in any large city, TAKE PRECAUTION (the San Juan expanded metro area has approx. 2.5 million residents) The night life... it's fun :) Near the school there's a few good clubs, pubs, bars, etc. If you can get to Old San Juan, even better... more of a selection. If there's one thing we do right in PR it's have fun, and there won't be any shortages of places to go to ;)

Other answers

Just to clarify: The city of San Juan is the capital of PR. It is formed by several districts or areas. * "Old San Juan" is a historical district part of San Juan, full of sight seeing places, turist attractions, jewleries, shops, cruiseship port. The main goverment buildings (governor's palace, legislative buildings and Supreme Court) are located there. * Rio Piedras was decades ago a town of its own, now is a district of San Juan. It is separated from the Old San Juan area by the Santurce and Hato Rey districts. The UPR Recinto of Rio Piedras is located (of course) at Rio Piiedras not at the Old SanJuan area. --- I did not studied at RP, but at Mayaguez. RP is the main campus of the University of PR. Americans are treated well, as any other student. --- Shady people? * At the University? No. * At night clubs, pubs? What do you expect to find there? --- Nightlife? We have crime as every other place, do not walk alone in late hours.
