Best place to surf in san juan puerto rico?

Any secret surf spots around San Juan Puerto Rico?

  • I live in OC Maryland and the surf is weak cause I'm always dodging shoobs. I can't even imagine how many fanny packs will be in the blue down in san juan. Anybody know of maybe a local spot that isn't covered In mainlanders?

    PR is very small. only 100 by 35 miles. So there is no secret spots. There are spots that they may not let you in. There is this very good spot that is actually in Old San Juan, but to access it you need to walk through one of the most dangerous, if not the most, areas of Puerto Rico. The surfing spot is in front of a place called La Perla. Other than that, most surfing spots in the island are known. Just ask around.

Not much surfing in San Juan, Darth has it right you gotta go west for the best. Isabella, Aguadilla and Rincon are where the professionals go.

I have to agree with both Darth & Jen, But as a plan (B) for those who can't go to Rincon, Aguadilla and Isabela they usually go to Piñones way inside and there are several spots the first area of the beach for surfing is Chatarra, then you have Aviones and last is Tocones.

Check out Arecibo, Casa y Pesca beach, close to la cueva del indio or Indian cave, breaks to the left most of the time. Also in Penon Amador en Camuy is great, sometimes you can have the area by yourself. Isabela is tops,plenty of spots in the morning, just had the Rip Curl event at Montones beach. Rent a jeep and head to the west out of San Juan, you wont regret it.
