Hotels near Pan American Pier in San Juan?

  • I'm sailing on a Royal Caribbean cruise in June and flying in a day early. I would like to stay near the cruise terminal, but am not familiar with the area so when I do online searches for hotels, I don't really know how accurate their descriptions are. For anyone that's been to San Juan or currently lives there, which hotels can you recommend that are near the Pan American Pier and/or other attractions close by? My budget is to aim for a room less than $100, so I'm not looking for anything very fancy, just decent.

The pan american pier is in an industrial area and isn't really near anything. No matter where you stay you'll have to cab it. Since you aren't looking for anything fancy I would suggest the howard johnson plaza de armas. It's very affordable and is in an excellent location in old San Juan. From there you can walk around old san juan and visit the forts and museums. Also on the weekends they have a fair where vendors sells, crafts, art and local delicacies. I stayed there last year before my rccl cruise and enjoyed it. The only thing is they adhere strictly to the check in times, but they will hold your luggage if you are early, so you can still explore.

I did the exact same thing about a month ago. I stayed at the Hotel Marriott and it was great. Affordable, and close to all the tourist attractions: El Morro, the shops, etc. and about a 10 min cab ride to the Pier. It was about 5 Min's from the airport, too. Have fun on your cruise!
