What exactly do you do in PR?

What can I deal with wanting to live in PR so bad and its hard to do so?

  • I use to live in PR for a while, I use to go travel on and off when my mom and grandmother use to live in PR while I lived in the states. I always loved living in PR (not were my house was located) but somewhere else in PR, like in Arecibo, Fajardo, Camuy. I love PR because its so beautiful and you never get bored of exploring the island but in reality is so hard to make a living, finding a job and having something to rely on economically. Both my mom and grandmother passed away, I lost the house and everything they had, now I dont have a place to go and live or even visit over there. Im home sick, its been three years and Ive never been so long away from the island. I cry wanting to go back for a while but I cant. I get depressed at times just because of this...so how can I cope and deal with home sick stuff? what would you do?

  • Answer:

I currently live in Puerto Rico, (Arecibo). I really don't think you should return since Puerto Rico's current state isn't so well economically or safety wise. Only way I suggest you even consider returning is if you have a BA in what's in demand here, which is medical field (nursing, etc.), administration or pharmaceutical area. As for a way to cope with you homesickness, perhaps planning trips to the island just for vacation may help (perhaps villas in Camuy or near Arecibo, since they are cheaper than hotels). Or finding something in your current State that will distract you and make you feel more at home. Perhaps creating a social life outside your current routine, or continuing your higher education so you can have a more stable environment around you. (Having more money can help you move from there to the island and maybe even land a job in the island). Just don't give into those negative thoughts, I can't relate to missing my hometown since I have never been away for long, but I can imagine it's pretty harsh on you. Remember, there is always a way!

You can retire or move back if you get an education. My friend lives there and her parents are retired. Like a petroleum engineer can make you up to 180k a year and it only takes a bachelors degree. If you manage to save any of it you can easily put it away to buy a nice house there and live on.
