How much would it cost me to move a car overseas?

HOW MUCH WILL COST TO MOVE A CAR FROM PHILADELPHIA TO PUERTO RICO?.?

  • I am moving to Puerto Rico and need to take my car with me. What will be the cheapest way to do it? How much will cost?

  • Answer:

If you have a BIG AMERIKAN CAR then you are stupid to take it to Puero Rico with the narrow streets and an almost total lack of on street parking.. If you don't have a SUB COMPACT then you will not like having your big car in PR. Also.. you DO KNOW that gas is sold by the LITER and not by the GALLON.. right? It's expensive to take a car out of the country because it has to be prepared for the trip.. For Puerto Rico you won't have to pay the high tariffs other Caribbean islands charge.. but it can easily cost you as much to ship your car as the car is worth. You need to contact a re-shipper to get a price to do this.. we can't tell you on here because it depends on the circumstances. I've lived in the Caribbean for over 30 years and I STILL don't own a car because it's just too much trouble. When I need wheels either I rent a car or just use one of the vehicles the company that owns my boat has.. owning a car ANYWHERE in the Caribbean is just not worth the effort... or the cost because there is great PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION in the Islands.. so it's always the AMERIKANS who want a car or think they need to rent a car to go where they want to go instead of paying a small amount to take a CAMION or a TAP TAP or whatever it's called on that island.

Anywhere along the lines of 4 million to 65 billion....cheapest way is to forget your car and swim.

approx. it could up to 3,000 been the cheapest and 5,000 being the most costy. I suggest you sell the car in PA or keep it safe and then buy a car in PR, even a new car will come out cheaper than sending it to PR. My grandmother paid 2,000 years ago to send a little car that looked like a mini and they stole the radio and certain car pieces, so its not worth it. My grandmother paid insurance which it was a rip off because she never got the money for what was stolen. PR companies rip off shipping cars are a rip off and you cant do anything about it, highly not recommended, believe me.

When we moved to the islands, albeit years ago, we sent our cars from Miami. It was the cheapest way. Although parking is scarce in San Juan, the rest of the island I assure you is capable of accommodating an SUV. And yes it's true gas is sold by the liter, but it still comes out to less than most places in the US main land. Right now you can get regular gas for .92/liter which is $3.49/ gallon. Not that big of a difference. The worst thing about Puerto Rico is the roads, they can beat the crud out of your car and it's hardest on the smallest of them. And great public transportation? Indeed, if you live in the metro area perhaps but the rest of us can not rely on it when you live away from the city. So if your car is, just an example, a Honda 4 door sedan (not small but not huge either) it would cost about $1,600-$2,000 if you go through Miami. Here is a company that can lead you to the right place to get what you want. http://www.shipmyvehicle.com/Ship_Car_Puerto_Rico.aspx

I actually shipped a car from Philly to PR a few years ago. I used La Rosa Del Monte. It costs about $1000 to ship the car. Then to pick it up there is an excise tax that starts at $850. Its $850 for any car that is valued at $5500 or less in PR. If its valued at more, the tax goes up. Remember that some cars are worth more in PR and some are worth less. So do your research first to see if it's worth it. Good cars to send (Hondas, Toyotas, Jeeps, 4x4 or stick shift).

14.99 plus tax which will come out to be 90723907390320[1930-0392 dollars.

Why not just sell it and buy a car when you get down there? It would be a LOT easier.
