How long does a international wire transfer from Jamaica take?

  • My dad is sending cash over from Jamaica, he's bank is FirstGlobal and my bank is a sister of HSBC(CoventryBuildingSociety). He has sent it through a SWIFT transfer on 30th April and he said I should have it the next day...today...But it's not there. He said that other bank transfer's he has done internationally has always been in the person's account next day. Can someone tell me please how long it takes? Thank you

    A SWIFT transfer takes roughly three to five working days. So, because of the weekend you're looking at Tuesday, the 5th to Thursday, the 7th of May. Alas, had your dad used Western Union on Moneygram it would have been instant and you could have collected the money within minutes. However, you'd have had to go to the agent or branch in person to collect the cash. Sending remittances via Moneygram etc is a lot quicker than bank to bank transfers.
