When did jamaica become independence?

Has Jamaica become more dangerous since Independence?

  • Answer:

It would not surprise me to learn that this was true. After all, that has been the outcome of every other country when they have gained independence from Britain. I honestly cannot think of a single country where this has not happened. It is not really surprising though. Even Britain had to go through its own birth pains to establish its nationhood. I do not think it at all unreasonable to expect the same to happen in any new country. There is a lot of stuff for people to sort out. Past grievances, corruption, and lethargy have to be overcome. New alliances and political goodwill have to be established. I hope that Jamaica will manage to build a new future with an inclusive State from all her people.

Jamaica is just the same as most developing countries in the world, there is a mix of good and bad, both in governance and in the people. I would not say Jamaica has gotten more dangerous per say, just lost its way as the system in place has failed the country and as a result there has been a massive breakdown in the Jamaican society.

No, violence is everywhere. It's just Jamaica is a small island so things seem to protrude more than what it is sometime. There are worst things happening in other places that aren't being scruitenzed

If you choose carefully where you live in Jamaica you can find areas where it is relatively free of crime. Returning expatiate need to take caution thou because you could become a target of crime. The tourist areas are quite safe and have security guards and well served by the Jamaica security force. If you stayed in villas that is a distant from the main resorts, make sure they have 24 hour security. Some of the recent security activities have driven some of the criminals out of Kingston to surrounding areas. So just check first to see if the local residential area you will be visiting has been affected. take caution like would would anywhere and you should be ok.

Yes, it has become exactly that. The biggest thing you hear in the news is about how angry mobs rise up and kill gay couples found showing public affection. The other details is that Jamaica is a place where a great deal of drug dealers and their respective gangs are around. Outside the tourist resorts guarded by the police and military, Jamaica is shown to be a world leader in gangs, drug dealing, and murder. I would not recommend visiting Jamaica without some serious research about what places are safe around there.

i have spent alot of time in jamaica over the last 6 years, i have never stayed on a resort either, but with the people of the country. If you are careful and no where to travel safely it is no more dangerous then going down town toronto when g--2summit or carabana or gay rights weekend. the people are extremely friendly and are usually out of there way for tourists.
