Has anyone retired in the Dominican Republic and obtained residency there?

  • I am a Canadian and would like to retire soon. I am looking for somewhere that is safe, stable, warm and will not tax me to death. I have heard that it is possible to obtain residency and even citizenship in the Dominican Republic. If anyone has experience or words of advice on this it would be helpful. Thanks

  • Answer:

It is a great country.Take a vacation and stay there a few weeks. You might change your ambitions.

Residency is still very easy to obtain for the Dominican Republic and many foreigners, particularly Canadians have chosen to retire there. For me and thousands of other foreigners the country is an absolute paradise however it is not for everybody and a few vacations does not prepare you for the realities of living there. Before investing in your dream retirement home I strongly urge you to rent a place and try it out for at least 6 months.

Before staying for ever, you need to come for a short period of time 3-4 months, to see if you like it. If it is the north coast, then mail me and I will gladly help you [email protected]
