Answer:
There are many good universities to go to in the DR, I personally graduated as an Architect from one called UNPHU (Universidad Nacional Pedro Henriquez Ureña). Since I’m Dominican and family there I stayed with my uncle but there were many students that rented apartments or rooms (they are signs all over colleges). Unfortunately they are no dormers in colleges or universities so you will have to rent. If you want you can request financial aid but you will be surprise how inexpensive is to study there. The classes could be by trimesters or semesters depending on the college you pick and they choose the classes for you the first level; after that you choose them. As for being able to work a part time job while studying, many students do that.

My girlfriend attends University of Santo Domingo. There are NO dorms, all classes are in Spanish so you must be fluent and that is the only school here accredited anywhere else other than here. They have branches all over the country. She attended in Puerto Plata when we lived in Sosua and then/now Nagua when we moved to Cabrera. Living situations are what you are prepared to pay for as there are no facilities other than school. Rents go from 200 bux and up depending on what you are looking to have. Send me a message if you speak Spanish and I will give you her email address. You can have guests here. It is a sexually charged country without the hangups where you come from.

When I left Haiti after 2 years, I taught at a Seminary in Santo Domingo for about a year. We actually had dorms and, at that time at least, it was just like any other bording school... I don't know how they operate these days. You DO KNOW that you MUST be fluent in SPANISH if you plan to go to school in the D.R.... right? If all you can do is talk AmeriKan then don't even bother applying.
