  wat up jorge ! i live in the puerta plata area and santiago is only a comfortable one hour bus ride from there and as i know of no direct flights to santiago from any u.s city , i know for a fact that from j. f .k , jet blu is not only the most affordable , but offers non stop daily service to puerta plata (approx. 4 hours ). from puerta plata airport you can get a public taxi to the carribe tours bus terminal that takes about 15 minutes and costs about 10 to 20 dollars ( depending on how slick you are ). the buses leave puerta plata every hour until about 9.30 10.00 at night and will take you directly to one of the 2 stops in the heart of santiago . the bus ride costs about 3 dollars , is very safe and very comfortable , but cold . bring a jacket . that said , its impossible to gauge what air fares will be with the current state of the economy and rising gas prices as well as many airlines cutting back on services to smaller less popular destinations which is happening as we speak , but last time i checked , jet blu was offering fares to p.p from j ,f .k for as low as 400 u.s round trip , which is an incredible deal if you can get it . ANY THING UNDER 500 BUCKS YOU SHOULD JUMP ON (check expedia and travelocity . i saved 150 dollars the last time i flew to philly instead of going directly through american . ( i also saved 50% on my car insurance by switching to geico ) . wait a minute , i dont even have a car any more .!
