How do I go to Cuba from the US?

If I go to cuba will I get into the US or vice versa?

  • I have a New Zealand passport. I recently wrote a paper for a academic conference in May in Santiago de Cuba on Integrated Coastal Management. The problem is that I also want to start my PhD soon at UC Berkeley. I have to fly Auckland>LAX>Mexico City>Havana and same way back. However I wanted to check out Berkeley on a stop over. What I am really asking is this: If on the way there I stop in the US will I be able to enter Cuba? If on the way back I stop in the US, will the US let me in because I've been to Cuba?

  • Answer:

If you are from new zealand you can enter cuba. fidel's regime is very tolerant of foreigners About entering the usa, no problem either. We escape from cuba and can enter

The US law barring most (though not all) travel to Cuba ONLY applies to US citizens. Since you are not a US citizen, it has no bearing on you. Also, Cuban law does not address previous travel to the US so there's no problem on that end either. The only potential hurdle for you is that (and you already alluded to it) you CANNOT fly directly from the US to Cuba or back as no such itineraries exist. Most people simply fly through Mexico City, Bahamas or Jamaica. Also, be aware that US travel agents are barred by federal law from booking any tickets to or from Cuba. Any such bookings must be made by a travel agent who is not located on US soil.

So long as you aren't flying directly to and from Cuba from the US... which you can't do anyway.... there will be no problem, especially since you aren't American. Add: Mickie - of course Americans can go to Cuba, you just can't fly directly from US soil to Cuba - there are a million ways around this. However, this may be one of many things that change with the Obama administration.

Shouldn't be a problem you are not American and in any case Cuba does not stamp passports.

Why not just fly into Venezuela and the on to Cuba? Anyway.. you don't have a U.S. passport so there is not problem. Actually, it's only a problem for AmeriKans who are not smart enough to know how to work around the embargo. I have been to Cuba 3 times in the past 10 years.. so unlike the 95 percent of the people here on Answers who have never been outside the State where they were born.. I have actually BEEN to Cuba... SEVERAL TIMES and know it can easily be done for people with U.S. Passports

NO, Americans are not allowed into Cuba!

Cuba will have no issue with you. (Cuba even welcomes visits from US citizens.) What sort of visa will you use for Cuba. If just a tourist visa, that will not show in your passport. Also, if the US authorities ask, why are you flying to Mexico ? It is probably best not to mention a trip to Cuba if you will soon want to apply for a US student visa.

I have been to Cuba in the past (6 years ago) and am going there next week. The last time I was there I came back to Canada and returned to Las Vegas two weeks later. There was no problem with my passport because the Cubans don't stamp your passport, that is why they require all visitors to carry a visitor card with them. Works like a passport. PS Last time I was there a peanut farmer from Georgia named Jimmy Carter was there. He wasn't worried about his returning to the United States.

Yes they will let you enter the US. The US has no jurisdiction over your travels since you're not a US resident/citizen. Don't worry and travel freely.

Cuba never stamps passports entry into the country will not be visible to the Americans on a cursory examination. The embargo does not apply to you also so I would not worry about it. I have been in Cuba 4 times and still travel to the U.S. on occasion it has never come up. And I dont think they really care that much. I am Canadian and the U.S. knows it is our prefered vacation spot.
