Study Abroad in High School Or College?

I'm in high school. I want to study abroad in Bermuda in college. Is it possible since my dad was born there?

  • My dads name was Donald Simmons Sr and he came here to the US rushing for a Green Card and married my mom in January 94. I was born at 5 months (exactly 20 weeks as the story goes in my moms views) on August 25 of 96. I'm 14 now and a freshman in high school. When I go to college in 4 years, I want to study abroad for a gap year. So is it possible that since my dad was from Bermuda that I can apply for a Permanent Residency Visa for a year? Then come back here to New York? When I get back I want to go to Columbia University for Radio and Psychology. :)

  • Answer:

Well almost anyone can study in Bermuda, given you have the appropriate student visas... But I also assume as your father is from Bermuda you already have or is entitled to British (overseas) citizenship... With a UK (Bermuda) passport you can come and go to Bermuda as you please; Ask your dad if you have UK (overseas) citizenship, If he says you don't you can claim it as you father is Bermudan. You can apply for a UK (overseas) citizen passport or UK (overseas) citizenship at the British Consulate/Embassy in NYC or MAYBE even online, MAYBE! And if you or the other readers didn't know Bermuda is an overseas territory of the UK and citizens of Bermuda hold special UK passports and UK citizenship...
