Can you tell me of your experience in an earthquake?

Just Bajan - Earth Tremor experience. 2007/9?

  • Hey guys, did anyone feel some sort of tremor yesterday? I heard some guys discussing this topic while at Harrison College today and i had to tell them ease off the alcohol and marijuana but the Geo teachers confirmed it and apparently it was on the news. So, did anyone experience this tremor on tuesday? Anyone remember the one back in 2007 :D Also, what was your experience like for the one in 2007 here's mine: I had just gotten home from classes and was chillin on the bed with my younger sister but then we started to feel a slight rocking motion and we're looking at each other like "WTF did you put in my drink???" So I got really confused & look though the window and realize "ummm the neighbors house appears to be rocking" *still very confused at this point * I got back on my bed and the shaking got more intense. But rather than thinking its an earthquake that’s really in effect i started to think "OHHH RASOUL!!! the house is built on cave and its gonna collapse!!" because at the time the house in arch hall I believe it was had recently collapsed. So we ran outside and tried to get away from the house but then realize "wait.....the whole island shaking???" then my geo knowledge kicked it and it was like "ah **** earthquake! this gotta be like a 5 on the mercali scale" I remember Cell phones, landlines & internet blanked out after. It really got the blood pumping Note: This all took place in like 45 seconds but seemed so much longer.

    I remember the tremor being mentioned in '07 around November. I was in shock because Barbados is not known for earthquakes! And I asked my 'brother-in-law' who was at work when it happened but said he did not feel anything. Then there was yesterday that I was told about a tremor, I think you were the first to tell me. My friend said she did not know they had an tremor until she heard on the news as she did not feel anything. That has to be scary. I went through a tremor once (it was minor) in Toronto, I was on the bus on way to subway station from school and it was like the bus was going to fall down, like it rocked to the right side. I basically had no idea what was going on until I learnt what it was later. Not fun at all.

lol dont you watch the news? lol you know i'm kidding! =] The one that happened yesterday shook the Ministy of Education's building slightly, but Minister of State Pactrick Todd said today that the building is now safe. so we'll see how that goes with the Bajans! lol lol when the last one happened I was at Farley Hill with some friends and we were lying on the floor on a blanket and then my friend was like "stop shaking the floor" and I was like girl you crazy no body aint shaking d floor and then i realised that it felt wierd so i looked at my other friend and I was lik you need to stop passing gas lol and he was like: "What?" lol and then we say others running around and the tranport Board bus that was parked up there started to shake real bad and the driver jumped out real fast...it was scary my friend, when i look back now i lkaugh cuz the things we said were sooooo stupid lol like who shaking d ground and such like lol. I cried from Farley Hill til I got to Town. Have a good day! =] P.S No need to curse my dear.

The supposed 'tremor' yesterday was just a heavy roller that some workmen were using on Nursery Drive (that is behind the Ministry of Education). Work is going on behind there that is why the minibuses and ZR van will enter and exit the same way. In 2007 on November 29 at about 3;00 pm I went by Westbury School to collect a child for a friend. Two men were fighting at the top of the 7th Orleans and I was watching them. I suddenly felt my head feeling giddy and thought I was feeling bad until I saw all the people that were sitting under the pavilion running down. They were waiting for their children.The children started running out of the school saying the building shaking. A man told me he was in the cemetery waiting in his car and he felt it shaking. He said he told his son to stop shaking the car but his son told him he was not and then he realized what was happening. I got the child and scrambled from there thinking it was only out there until I pass everyone on the way expressing concern. I later came down by Normans Centre to collect my costume for St Philip Carnival to be told that they closed off the building so I ended up having to get another shirt to jump in as the building was closed. That quake also postponed the catching of the Digicel Fugitive for which I was glad for because if it had taken place that day I would not have know where it was. I thought it was on the highway or someplace. Fortunately, it was held the following week and some lucky 'PRAISE THE LORD' person got $22,000 smackeroos THANK YOU JESUS lol. I have to thank the Lord for that quake because that is the only thing that could have postponed that on November 29, 2007.
