WHICH IS THE BEST PLACE TO LIVE AND WORK AS A NURSE? BARBADOS OR ECUADO?

  • I AM A NURSE AND I AM LOOKING FOR A BETTER PLACE TO WORK AND LIVE AS A NURSE. I AM THINKING ABOUT TRAVELING TO EITHER ECUADOR OR BARBADOS...WHICH COUNTRY IS THE BEST PLACE TO LIVE AND WORK BETWEEN BARBADOS AND ECUADOR BASED ON PRESENT ECONOMIC STAND

  • Answer:

You can try looking for a nursing position in Ecuador but I hope that you can speak Spanish since that is a Spanish-speaking country. You can also look on this site. http://www.campusrn.com/ Right now in Barbados, there is a shortage of nurses http://archive.nationnews.com/archive_results.phpas we grapple with Health Care Professionals leaving. We have had to seek as far as the Philippines and Nigeria to recruit nurses. Recently they said that they were looking at bringing some from St Vincent. In the Weekend Nation of May 29, 2009 the National Union of Public Workers (NUPW) was calling on the government to fill the void left by the Nigerian nurses. This shortage is affecting all the heath care institutions. You can contact the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and speak to the Nursing Officer via the Personnel Officer at 1-246-429-6747. Bear in mind that there might be certain problems in terms of overtime pay etc.

Hi, I have no idea about Ecuado because I hardly hear about that country, especially when it comes to nurses far less their economic situation. As the answer above me said nurses from Barbados are leaving and going to other islands and countries. Although i must say that many Nigerian nurses and doctors are coming to Barbados so I do believe that you would be able to get work once you are qualified abnd have obtained your qualifications from an accredited institution. I hope I have helped you. P.S you must also make sure that you are legal if you come here because the government is now keeping a very watchful eye on illegal immigrants. Good luck. =]

Honestly, most of our local Barbadian nurses are going overseas to get more benefits etc... So we have a fair amount of foreign nurses at the hospital (some who can't speak English...but thats another story). So if you're qualified you might just find a job. Howvever some of those foreign nurses have been complaining about irregular pay and poor treatment from hospital administration. So its pretty much up 2 u. You might be able to get a job at a private hospital or other health care institution though. Don't know anything about Ecuador's nursing situation. Please don't type in caps. Its considered rude

CAPS AGAIN???? You can't seriously be asking for help/advice in caps. Our hospital is massively under staff and the nursing staff is stretch to brim of collapse. So i'm sure there's a need/demand for nurse. However, the Govt doesn't have the capital or resources to generate money to pay new medical staff so they are positions open but no money to pay the person who fill those positions. You will go MONTHS without pay if ur 'subbing' which you'll start off at. I have a friend that's a nurse from Trinidad and she applied at the QEH and still haven't gotten any reply. She now works at Sandy Crest Medical center. Private is the one and only way to go.
