Has anyone ever been on an Atlantis All-Gay cruise before?

Has anyone ever been to Nassau Bahamas? On a cruise?

  • My fiance & I are going on our honeymoon in May. Part of it includes a cruise and one stop is Nassau Bahamas. We are trying to weigh out excursions vs. doing things on our own. We found an adventure that takes us to Atlantis to the beach. But it's $90 a person. We are already doing a dolphin encounter at another port, and we aren't interested in doing the water rides at Atlantis. We really just want to spend the day at the beach and shopping. If we don't do Atlantis can we find a beach and shopping on our own? It just seemed like the whole place was Atlantis. Any suggestions? Should we spend the day on our own on pay for the excursion? We are just trying to narrow down to a few excursions. We have 4 ports and don't want to go overboard with all excursions!

You might want to consider a Day Pass to Breezes. For $60pp. ($55 with a local coupon) you can spend the day at the beach and pool, all inclusive food and drinks, kayaks, windsurfing, trapeze, rock climbing etc. Or ... there's a public beach on Paradise Island called Cabbage Beach. It's the same beach that Atlantis sits on. You can access it for free thru the pathway next to the RIU. You can rent a chair and umbrella. THere are vendors on the beach selling drinks. Grab a cab for $4pp each way. Shopping is located near the ship, so you can do that either before or after your beach trip. For snorkeling - Flying Cloud (www.flyingcloud.info) and Seahorse (www.seahorsesailingadventures.com) are both good outfits and relatively inexpensive. BTW.. Congrats on your engagement.

ANYTHING you do in Nassau is going to be EXPENSIVE... if you would be content to just stroll around Nassau.. hit the duty free shops and look at the scenery... then you can easily spend the whole day just roaming around town.. and have a delightful luncheon at a nice restaurant instead of a rapid paced "adventure" that will cost 10 times as much. The Cruise Ship tires up at the Prince Fredericks-what's-his-name docks and you are almost right downtown 5 minutes after you walk down the gangway.

If you are going to Blue Lagoon Island to do your dolphin encounter there is a beach there. The excursion says it takes 3 hours, but there is nothing that says you have to get back on the tender and leave the island after 3 hours. When I went the Cruise didn’t leave until midnight so I just left my group and walked around the island and found a private beach. When I was there I think I counted maybe ten other people on the beach and they didn’t stay very long. The beach had alcohol and lunch available on it too. Be sure to ask the bar tender when the last shuttle leaves the Island so you don’t miss it! You will have a lot of fun on your excursion, its one of the best. As for stuff to do IN Nassau, I would suggest the horse drawn carriage ride, it’s a lot of fun. Last time I went the driver was drunk and hollering at the women who passed by. Friend who was behind us said their driver was stoned and joking with them about everything. Our horse would go up to cars and stick its head in the window along with some other funny antics. All in all it’s an experience worth having. I would also suggest senior frogs, a local bar, you can’t miss it, it has a huge frog in front of the bar and it’s right on the water. Very fun place to sit and drink. Aside from that DO NOT RENT A SCOOTER It’s very dangerous if you don’t know your way around or the traffic rules. A guy and his girlfriend on my last cruise was hit by a car and had to be taken to the infirmary on the ship. Try it all everything is fun in the Bahamas.

The straw market there is great! Plenty of fun, especially if you like to barter. The bus system there is very cheap so it's not too expensive to get around. Be aware of what's going on around you and stay safe. Atlantis is pretty neat. If the water park there is included, it may not be a bad idea to try it out. If you do, make sure you see "the dig". Check out where the ship will be docked. It may be right next to the straw market.

i wouldn't pay for the excursion. maybe walk as far into the atlantis as you can without paying so you can see some of the aquarium, hang out on the beach (where they will serve nice tropical drinks) and shop at the straw market. that's what we did when i went, and i didn't regret it.
