Toronto or Vancouver- climate wise?
-
I live in Edmonton, but I'm thinking about moving. I narrowed it down to two cities, Toronto or Vancouver. I think both of those two cities are great, so I don't know which one to choose. So my final decision will be made based on climate. I'm not scared of those cold winters in Toronto. But a lot of people say that it gets too hot there during summer. I like hot summers, but not too much hot. Like I don't want to sweat so much, as if someone poured water on me. But on the other hand, I heard that in Vancouver it rains a lot. I like rain, but only when it's moderate. I hate when it rains for days. So what do you think? Which city has better climate?

Answer:
"I hate when it rains for days" - Than don't move to Vancouver "a lot of people say that it gets too hot there during summer. I like hot summers, but not too much hot" It can get very hot in summer in Toronto in summer, but I'd say there is maybe 10 days in the summer where it is unbearable. I'm actually originally from northern saskatchewan, so at first I though Toronto summers were hot, but I adjusted in about 2 years and now I welcome the early beautiful spring weather and fall being warm. The weather is usually great in Toronto.

I would suggest Vancouver if you like mountains and varied topography and Toronto if you like metropolitan feel.

The winters are cloudy and dreary in both cities. In vancouver it rains almost every day with a smattering of sunny days in between. In Toronto it snows almost every day with a smattering of sunny days between. In vancouver it hovers just above freezing and occasionally snows, in toronto it hovers just below freezing and rains on top of the snow (which immediately deteriorates into a slushy salty soup as soon as it hits the ground). Both cities are much wetter than Edmonton. The summers are sunny and relatively cool in Vancouver. In Toronto it's warmer, but not as hot as you'd think. The humidity can be nasty though. It rains a fair bit in Toronto in summer (it's raining right now :P ) usually in the form of some pretty spectacular storms, vancouver is pretty dry.

Personally, I prefer the climate in Vancouver. Toronto experiences more extreme climate (Toronto's winters are very cold while their summers are very hot) while Vancouver is much more temperate (temperatures in the winter are around 2 C and summers are around 26 C). What else are you looking for in a city? Vancouver and Toronto are quite different. Also, though it rains a lot in Vancouver: 1. You eventually get used to it. 2. The weather can potentially change hourly, so while it might start out as a rainy morning, it has a chance of becoming a sunny afternoon on the same day.

Both have disadvantages, but speaking as someone who grew up in Toronto and then moved to Vancouver, I'll take Vancouver's climate any day. Toronto's summers just about killed me. If it's cool or rainy, you can wear the right clothes outside. If it's hot and humid, as it is in Toronto for almost 3 months in summer, you can't get away from it except by getting into an air conditioned building.

I grew up in Edmonton. Toronto actually feels colder because of the humidity. I was perfectly good with Vancouver for 20 years but because of climate, I now live in LA. When it comes to climate, Toronto sucks. The rain in Vancouver is no big deal considering that when it is raining it is above freezing.
