How long can I stay in Canada if I fly in from the US?

How long do I have to stay in Canada before i can visit the US again?

  • I am a Canadian citizen staying with my boyfriend in the US, I have to go back and I want him to go back with me to Canada and visit. How long would I have to stay here in Canada before I can go back to the US with him. I've been here in the US so far 4 months and were looking to leave in early may.

  • Answer:

To be considered living in Canada, and eligible for health care, you must spend most of your time in Canada. Simple as that; anything less, and you will be considered as having emigrated. Now, the Americans have rules on this as well, like how long you can stay, but, I don't know what they are. If you come back to Canada, he can stay up to six months as a tourist.

You are allowed to stay in the US for 180 days per calendar year. It doesn't matter if you take them back to back or break them up into smaller units. Just so they don't exceed 180 days. If you've been there for four months, you can come back home and return anytime for another two months.

You can't be absent more than182 days a year so just do the math.
