What are summers in Vancouver like?

Toronto or vancouver?

  • im soon to be moving to canada from the uk but im in a dilemma as to which of these places i should go to,i can go to either.i know that toronto is more expensive and has more extreme weather while vancouver is rainier and nearer the mountains but im looking to see which city suits me best overall.let me tell you a bit about myself and what im hoping for:- -im a recent graduate in a tourism degree and looking to enter this job market -i like the outdoors and being active -i dislike intense cold (ironic i should go to canada i know but the quality of life and summers more than compensate and id much prefer crisp snowy cold to the freezing drizzly grey we have in the uk) but i love hot sunny weather -im young free and single and looking to meet new friends and more -i like being able to travel easily, maybe make regular visits to other cities, the us or warmer climates -as a recent graduate im on a tight budget and dont have much money so looking for somewhere with a good employment market and which place would be best for getting started -i love all things north american, especially canadian which of these cities would you honestly say i should go to in terms of employment, quality of life, friendliness towards brits, social life and dating, crime rate, weather and activities? any unbiased advice from british expats or canadian residents would be great.

  • Answer:

Employment: Toronto Quality of Life: Vancouver Friendliness: Equal Social Life and Dating: Equal Crime Rate: Toronto (Vancouver has more crime, but most of it is minor thefts) Weather and Activities: Vancouver Those are just my estimations, but both cities have a lot to offer. I think that tourism might be a more significant industry in Vancouver as opposed to Toronto, and Vancouver promotes a lot of outdoor activities. Weather-wise, Vancouver is quite temperate, so even though it won't be extremely cold, you won't get the very hot summers that you seem to enjoy. Both Toronto and Vancouver are pretty close to the U.S. border, so they're equal in that sense. From what I've heard, it's easier to find jobs in Toronto, but if you're specifying that you're interested in going into tourism, Vancouver might be better for you.

Vancouver is more beautiful, and they have a lot of party scenes , its not as busy, and it pretty close to washington state, which is another cool little place. toronto- its louder, not much to see but people and more people There both pretty expensive to start living in.

vancouver is way more expensive to live than toronto. All other things would be equal.

Do you have an immigration visa? If not, it will take two years to get one once you have some tourism work experience. Get a cheap trip to one of those cities while you are waiting and hop a cheap local flight to the other and see what you think. January would be a good month.

I don't think you're going to get everything you want in either city. Vancouver has those grey drizzly winters but excellent access to outdoor activities. You can go hiking in the mountains and get to the trail by city bus, you can ski within sight of the city(and get there by bus too). On the whole, I think Toronto might suit you better. More extreme climate, yes, but sunnier all year round, cold but not very much intense cold, and summers that can be quite hot at times. Much closer to more US cities. Not more expensive than Vancouver for places to live.

Vancouver is a real active city. People are generally really outdoorsy here. There is so much going on in the summer months that you would find it easy to join groups and make friends. There is a lot of foreign workers coming through Van as its a pretty friendly city. I cant speak for Toronto, but I dont think you could work in a better industry than tourism out here in Vancouver. There is so much to do and so many opportunities to experience Canada (and west coast US) that I wouldnt know where to start! It is an expensive city to live in, like any, but one that is easy to adapt, fit in and enjoy. You might want to check this out http://www.tourismvancouver.com/visitors/ and good luck with the move. Whereever you end up Canada is a fab place for the UK and Irish!!

vancouver has been voted the world's most livable city five years in a row ... vancouver has the city life and nature just as close ... i can be on the beach two blocks from my home, and in less than half an hour i could be on top of a snowy mountain ... the weather in toronto is harsh ... harshly hot and humid in the summer and brutally cold in the winter ... vancouver is more temperate year round ... we do have rain but when the rain stops, that is it, the snow in toronto is around for months ...
