How much does a nurse make in the US? Canada? London?

What would happen if Britain repealed the North American Act, abolishing Canada?

  • And this Britain uses the power of the Governor General and the Head of State to take back Canada's Capital to London (NO I DONT MEAN LONDON, ONTARIO!) And then suppose like in Da Vinci Code, the last descendants of the British Parliament who did NOT vote in favour of the North American Act in 1867, dominate British Parliament and take Canada back to Britain. As Canada goes back to Britain, the British make a side deal with Bloc Quebecois that they will give a separatist nation of Quebec self-rule and also give 100 BILLION British Pounds to the Liberal Party of Canada. Canada would unite behind Harper and stop this from happening?

  • Answer:

I have to ask myself why your questions sometimes stray from the realm of possibility and into the world of fantasy. Britain cannot "repeal" a law that was not theirs in the first place. They could try to reclaim a territory or colony that has broken away or been invaded by a foreign power, but look how well that worked with the British colonies in America in 1776. UK (Great Britain) has not had any claim on Canada since the British North America Act of 1867. We finally ratified our constitution (known as the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms) in 1982 to make it that Canadian lawmakers can now make amendments to the constitution through simple legislation that no longer needs the Queen's approval. And when I say the Queen, I mean the Queen of Canada, not the Queen of England. Although they are technically the same person, Queen Elizabeth holds multiple titles and reigns over many countries. If the Queen were to decide tomorrow that she no longer wants to be Queen of Canada, she could theoretically abdicate the throne of Canada, but still retain her title as Queen of England. As for all the other "bribery" that you suggest, all I could say would be that if anything even remotely like that were to happen, there is a strong chance a civil war would break out here. You could have the French separatists going for the ultimate prize of their own country, another group wanting to keep the country together, one small group agreeing to go back under English rule, and still another group deciding to separate from the others, much like Quebec but Anglo version, likely from out west. With all that instability, the Americans might even come up and just decide to annex the whole place to settle things down again. So good luck with the "what-ifs", but I really think you should focus on things that could actually happen, not something like robot alien life forms hiding on the moon's surface waiting to take over the world. People will start to worry that you forgot to take your meds recently.

The British North America Act (1867) is a Canadian Act, and always was. It was amended, and re-issued as the Constitution Act (1982). I was there, on Parliament Hill, when HM the Queen of Canada signed it into law, giving her Royal Assent. As of 1982, there is no legal connection between the UK Parliament, and Canada. And even then, the only thing was the division of powers between the House of Commons, and the Senate. As of the Statue of Westminster (1931), pretty much everything remaining was transferred to the Commonwealth Realms, with that one, single exception for Canada, which was transferred in 1982.

Maybe you should have paid attention in History class. Or did you even take it. The British North America Act, under which Canada was created was replaced by the Canadian Constitution which was repatriated under Pierre Eliot Trudeau in 1982. I had forgotten the date so had to look it up. Here is the website I used. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canadian_Constitution Harper wouldn't care since he is the current Prime Minister and the payout would go to him. As the leader of the Republican Party of Canada, he would ensure that it was shared only with his closest associates.

I have a feeling that if Britain ever tried to reclaim Canada as a territory, we would need help from the USA to keep our independence, and that would make us incredibly vulnerable to being taken over by the USA...
