Selling Cutco in Canada-Border Policies and Legalities?
-
Over the christmas break between semesters, I am going to Montreal for two weeks to visit family. I am working as a sales representative for Cutco Cutlery in New York and I was concerned about the legalities of selling cutco in another country. Right now im doing pretty well for my self selling the knives and this could certainly help. Im sure there are various tax laws that I don't know about and explaining to the border patrol my car is full of knives probably won't go over to well. My aunt sounds excited to help me out, but I don't want or need any legal mess any time soon. Suggestions?

It sounds like a grey area. I'd check with your upline before trying to sell across borders. We already have Cutco representatives up here so it's not like you're introducing a product that nobody has seen before. This means it won't be unusual for you to be doing this. However, there might be some legalities in trying to sell here in terms of pricing, shipping as well as your ability to sell merchandise here. I'd say not to risk it, or contact a Cutco representative in Montreal and see if they're willing to take you on for those two weeks.

I don't think it would be worth the hasel. You would probably need a work permit and a bunch of other stuff. Even if you were to work for Cutco in Canada instead of the New York office it wouls still be a pain. Having knives at the boarder would not be a problem but the Boarder Guards probably know what Cutco is and would ask about permits.

cutco is sold in canada, they have sales reps up there, so i do not see what the problem would be.

If you're bringing in a lot of product to sell, you may have to pay duties at the border. If you've only got enough to fill up your trunk, just try saying that they're "samples" that you're giving away. That works sometimes.
