Will my passport Number change when I get a new passport?
-
I live in Canada, and I recently got married and changed my name. This means (I looked it up) that i need to apply for a totally new passport. Im applying for the new passport on Monday, and will get it by next friday, but i wanted to buy my airplane tickets tonight. I have my old passport still (Since I dont apply for my new one until monday)... even tho im getting a new passport, will my passport number ID change, or will it stay the same? I really wanna buy the tickets tonight since its an amazing price that i do not wanna miss, but if my passport number is going to change, then i cant buy the tickets because in order to buy the tickets, they require you provide your passport number at the time of booking. So, the question is... Will my passport number change when i get a new one, or will it stay the same?

Answer:
Your passport number definitly changes. We get new passports every 2 to 3 years. We have a computer glitch with AC and my wife's maiden name frequently shows up at check in to the airport. We never had a problem, worst case is take a copy of your wedding licience, your old and new passport.

You will get a new number with your new passport - but I'm surprised that you can't keep using your current passport until it expires. You should be able to use your maiden name to buy the tickets, and use your old passport when you pick them up and board the plane. Or am I mistaken?

Last time I booked tickets on an international flight, in October, the ticket agency only asked for my name, not the passport number. In that case, give them your new name. I don't think I'd give my passport number out on the internet anyway. What the airlines really don't like is to have someone show up at the check-in with a different name in their passport than the name the ticket was booked under. If the name is the same, they'll be looking at your passport and taking the number when you check in. If you have changed all your other ID, that might be a problem, though if you have a passport, they don't look at your driver's licence or anything else. A passport usually trumps every other ID. I honestly can't see why you can't fly under your maiden name, and take your marriage papers with you just in case. I just checked my current passport against my expired one. The numbers are completely different. If the number changes when the name is the same, it should surely change when the name does.
