Should I move to Penticton, BC?

  • My mom and I are going to move in October 2010 and I am on the Internet researching places in BC that seem like places were my mother and I would want to live and be happy in. Based on the following requirements, do you honestly think my mom and I should move to Penticton, BC? -I'm a 14 year old girl going into Grade 9 this fall. -My mom is a Certified General Accountant that was certified in BC; she is looking for an Accounting Manager/Controller job. She has a total of around 20 years of accounting experience. -I am a dancer; the small city must have a dance studio. -I like yoga; the small city must have a yoga studio. -Bowling alley -Ski/Snowboard mountain close by -Movie theatre in, or very close to, the small city -Pet store -Shopping mall (doesn't have to be big, but has to have stores that teens shop at, and of course adult clothing stores, a small-ish mall is what we're looking for). -Close to the U.S. border (like an hour or less drive). -Hospital (obviously) -Veterinary Clinic -Beautiful views -Gorgeous beach with a nice lake. (doesn't have to be really warm, but it can't be freezing or anything). -Little crime -Not a huge amount of traffic -Not too long rush hour -Friendly people -Nice, affordable condos/suites for rent ($1,000 to $1,700 per month, Utilities Included on the more expensive ones, starting at $1,500/month) :D -ACCOUNTING MANAGER/CONTROLLER JOBS AVAILABLE FOR A BUSINESS! THIS JOB MUST PAY AT LEAST $70,000 YEARLY! :D (and accounting manager/controller jobs do pay at least $70,000 yearly, which is very good) :) -Friendly people! :) -Fun things to do -Candy store (lol) ;) And Obviouussslllyyy the genereal needed neccessities, like food stores, furniture store, car shops, etc! the obvious stuff that every town with more than 5,000 people has. :) Thanks!!! Please tell me what you think, and if you have any other small cities in BC in mind!!! :D Oh, and... P.S. My parents said that Penticton has a lot of parties on the Skaha Beach, Penticton's main beach, in the summer time. Umm....I somehow don't think this is true. Please....lemme know if this is true, from someone who actually lives in Penticton. :) Thank you :)

If you move to penticton...you will be sorry that you never moved to kelowna. Kelowna is where it's at especially with UBC and other secondary education. and the down town is fun all year...especially in the summer

Penticton is a great place to live - but most of the parties are on Lake Okanagan, not Skaha. Skaha is a little lake south of Penticton and it is great for paddling - but the wind comes up most afternoons and gives you a sizeable chop, which isn't that great for the houseboats, so the houseboats (aka partyboats) tend to cluster in Lake Okanagan, or in Shuswap Lake, which is the next valley over. Good skiing at Apex and pretty much all your other requirements are met - except your mom's job, which no one can guarantee. She'll have to apply on her own and find out what's available to her.
